The board overturned the decision regarding collective bargaining negotiations

Riihimäki's education and welfare board revoked its decision to initiate cooperation negotiations in the area of ​​responsibility for liberal arts work and basic art education. According to the administrative rule, the competence of the board was not enough to start the negotiations. The board decided on the matter at its meeting on Wednesday, January 10, 2024.

"The goal of the negotiations was to find out the personnel structure and resources of Riihimäki Art School and, if necessary, to correct the legality of the employment relationships of the current personnel. This goal has not gone away. We will continue to investigate the situation, because based on the administrative rules, I can decide to change the duty and job description of the staff of the branch", says director of culture Jari Lausvaara.

A total of 132 people work at Riihimäki civic college, art school and music college. The art school is administratively a part of Riihimäki civic college. Riihimäki art school offers basic art education for children and teenagers aged 5–18, as well as adults.
