Riihimäki Glass Factory School and the Finnish Hunting Museum will begin sponsoring school operations in January 2026. This is a long-term collaboration that will deepen the partnership between the school and the museum that has been ongoing for years.
The Finnish Hunting Museum is currently renewing its operations and expanding to become a comprehensive showcase of wilderness culture. In addition to hunting, the museum will increasingly present themes of hiking, outdoor activities, fishing, nature photography and collecting natural products in the future. Children and families with children are an important visitor group for the museum. With a new kind of sponsor school concept, the museum wants to develop child-friendliness, cultural education and children's participation in the museum's activities more strongly.
The Glass Factory School is located next to the museum, next to forests and outdoor recreation areas. Natural values are a strong bond between the Glass Factory School and the Hunting Museum. The start of the sponsor school operation is a natural continuation of the long-standing close cooperation. Cooperation with the Hunting Museum brings new opportunities for learning. The school, founded in 1915, has three special classes and a pre-school group in addition to basic education grades 1–5, totaling 120 students and 17 preschoolers. The school is already the sponsor school of the Riihimäki Glass Blowers Club, which strengthens the school's close connection to the history of our glass town.
Sponsored school activities mean long-term and regular cooperation. Students participate in, among other things, museum visits, workshops and joint projects such as the planning and implementation of miniature exhibitions. Sponsored school students get to test and provide feedback on the museum's new exhibitions and child-friendly content.
The museum is currently looking for a new name to reflect its renewed and expanded field of operation. The schoolchildren at the Glass Factory will have the opportunity to review the name suggestions and comment on them as part of the name selection process. The cooperation will also extend to the school premises, where the Hunting Museum will organize the Nature 365 nature photography event next April.
The sponsor school activity will intensify the Hunting Museum's cooperation with schools. The museum is already involved in the Riihimäki City Cultural Trail, within the framework of which all fourth-graders in the city visit the museum annually. The museum welcomes all groups from educational institutions and kindergartens led by a teacher – visits are free of charge.
