Ten electrical distribution cabinets will be painted in July – artist search now open
Riihimäki will once again gain more color and a creative look when the Boxit project continues!
The plan is to paint 10 electrical cabinets in July 2026. The project was voted into implementation as part of the 2025 participatory budgeting, but the implementation was postponed to this year. The Boxes street art project allows city residents to paint switch cabinets in the urban landscape of Riihimäki. Switch cabinets refer to small metal cabinets related to electrical and telecommunications systems in parks and along the streets.
“This year, the boxes will be held as part of the RixuBlock event aimed at children and young people. On the same day, in addition to the concert and street project, a street basket event will be held at Granit Square, so welcome to celebrate Super Thursday!”, says Anni Salminen, who is delighted about cultural and event services.
Apply to paint
The application is open from May 15 to June 14. We invite bold, inventive and unique artists – both experienced artists and promising new talent.
The selected works will be completed on July 9th and will remain part of the city space for everyone to see. The electrical cabinet painters will be selected based on applications. So send your contact information and sketches of the future painting for the electrical cabinet. With a Google docs form. If you don't have a Google Account, you can email your contact information (email and phone number) and draft to kulttuuri@riihimaki.fi under the title Boxes 2026. The paint needed for painting will be paid for through participatory budgeting.
