Riihimäki entrepreneurs have once again provided feedback on the city's business policy by responding to the Finnish Entrepreneurs' Municipal Barometer survey. The city of Riihimäki's ranking in the national survey improved. The overall score was 3,30 on a scale of 1–5. This time, the average score for medium-sized municipalities across the country was 3,17. The previous time, in 2024, Riihimäki's overall score was 3,18.

The results show that local businesses have improved their assessments of their own city.

"The municipal barometer is an important tool for the city in developing its business policy. Based on the overall results, our course is correct, and we can be proud of the work we have done. The results also give us concrete information about where we need to improve," says Mayor Jouni Eho.

This time, there were 113 respondents to the survey. The previous time, in 2024, there were a quarter of respondents, 29. While the survey is open, the city is actively communicating to entrepreneurs about the opportunity to have an impact.

Estimates of the appreciation of elected officials significantly better

Entrepreneurs' assessments of the city's elected officials' appreciation of entrepreneurship have previously been below the national average in Riihimäki (in 2024, Riihimäki 2,8; Finland as a whole 3,10). This time, the result rose clearly above the national average to 3,41 (Finland as a whole 3,11). One goal of the city's activities has been to improve the results on this issue.

Investing in bringing entrepreneurs together

The city has been actively working to promote meetings between city representatives and entrepreneurs. Last autumn, the city drew lots among the willing city councilors to select sponsor councilors for local entrepreneurs. City councilors meet with a representative of their sponsor company 1–2 times a year. Sponsors provide the city with information on issues that have arisen.

The mayor has also had the habit of meeting Riihimäki entrepreneurs for morning coffee twice a year for the fourth year in a row.

"As a new form of cooperation, we are organizing a regional business fair with entrepreneurs and municipalities in the Riihimäki region in September-October. At the fair, companies in the region will be able to present their products and services to city residents," says Mayor Eho.

The joint regional business cooperation between the city of Riihimäki and the municipalities of Hausjärvi, Janakkala and Loppe began at the beginning of 2026. The cooperation will strengthen the attractiveness of the area and create a solid foundation for the growth of existing businesses and the creation of new ones.

The Municipal Barometer is a survey by the Federation of Finnish Entrepreneurs that surveys cooperation between municipalities and entrepreneurs every two years.
