Block concerts bring music into people's everyday lives

30.1.2025 News Culture and leisure Culture Vitality Participation Events

The cultural and event services of the City of Riihimäki will begin implementing Block Concerts next summer, which offer musical experiences to people's everyday lives where they live.

In the parking lot, playground, courtyard

Block concerts can take place anywhere in Riihimäki and can be held in a store parking lot, a children's playground, or an apartment building's courtyard. By bringing musical experiences to the backyards of city residents, they enliven the cityscape and contribute to the implementation of the City of Riihimäki's Cultural Wellbeing Plan.

The content of the block concerts is produced in a way that serves as diverse a target group and musical tastes as possible. The performers at the concerts are mainly local music professionals and enthusiasts, while also increasing regional expertise.

"Block concerts are a new concept that was designed to take participation and expertise into account. Riihimäki has many music enthusiasts and professionals, and it is an excellent way to connect people," says Lyti Aaltonen, responsible cultural producer.

Block concerts will be held in Riihimäki between June and August, with eight concerts in different neighborhoods, and residents will be able to indicate what they think are the best concert venues in the city.

Where would you like to see the Block concert?

Voting for concerts is open from 3 to 28 February 2025. At the same time, we are mainly looking for musicians from the Riihimäki area to perform at the summer concerts: bands, dance orchestras, choirs, troubadours, brass bands or other ensembles, and all musical styles are welcome. The application for performances is open from 3 to 28 February 2025.

Further information on registering for concerts and searching for performances can be found at the Riihimäki City Department of Culture. From the Block Concerts page.
