The age limits for library customer spaces are changing at Digipaja and Musiikkistudio.
The age limit for users of the Riihimäki City Library's Digipaja and Music Studio will be raised to 15 years as of June 1, 2026. However, anyone under the age of 15 can continue to use the facilities if they have permission from their guardian.
The facilities have previously been accessible to all ages, but the reason for raising the age limits is that there are several expensive devices in the Digipaja and Musiikkistudio and that people have eaten, made a mess and broken devices in the facilities. Violent games have also been played in the facilities, which are prohibited in the library according to the principles of a safe space. Most children have behaved appropriately in the facilities, but since closed spaces are difficult to monitor, setting an age limit will hopefully serve as a solution to the problem.
If a child needs the facilities, for example to support their hobby, then a customer under the age of 15 can still use the facilities with the permission of their guardian. Permission can be obtained by coming to the library with their guardian, or the guardian can fill out a permission slip available from the library. With the permission to use the facilities, the guardian gives their consent and justification for the use of the facilities, and commits to the rules for using the facilities with their child. The justification can be, for example, a musical hobby. The permission information is recorded in the library's customer system, where it can always be checked when reserving a facility.
Children can continue to reserve Satuvinti and a Nintendo Switch or PlayStation console in the youth section of the library. The children's section also has four computers that children can use to play games.
