The library received project funding to promote literacy!
The Regional State Administrative Agency granted the city of Riihimäki 32 euros in state aid for the library's Riksu Lukevaksi project. The funding is intended to build new operating models to promote reading and literacy among Riihimäki residents.
The Riihimäki City Library's Riksu lukevaksi project aims to respond to the challenges caused by the polarization of reading and to develop cooperation between the library, early childhood education, basic education and other potential actors. The project has three goals. The first is to create structures for literacy work, i.e. a literacy network to be formed with the library, early childhood education and basic education, and later with other potential actors. The second is the systematic nature of literacy work, i.e. the planning and implementation of literacy work together with the literacy network. The third is to strengthen the literacy skills of Riihimäki residents in accordance with the National Literacy Strategy 2030.
The library plans, tests and implements new activities to promote reading. The library helps and supports early childhood education groups and basic education classes to implement the Lukeva early childhood education and Lukeva school literacy programs. Strengthening literacy skills applies to city residents of all ages, so the library's services are developed, for example, by introducing services to new operating environments.
A project worker will be hired for the project for the 2025–2026 academic year.
