At its meeting on Monday, December 9, 2024, Riihimäki city council approved the city board's proposal to support the campus project of Häme University of Applied Sciences (HAMK) with 7,5 million euros.

The city government proposed to the city council that the city supports HAMK's campus project with 7,5 million euros, adds the relevant euro reservation to the financial plan and states that a more detailed contract will be drawn up for the project, which will safeguard the city's interests. The motion was accepted as is.

Matkakeskus facilities for the University of Applied Sciences

HAMK's operations will be located in the low part of the Matkakeskus, which is to be renovated and expanded, the so-called Liikerata during the years 2026 and 2027.

The city, HAMK and Hyria education have been preparing the campus project from 2023. Last fall, the parties signed a memorandum of understanding on the matter. When HAMK's operations move to Matkakeskus, Hyria would move part of its operations to the property vacated by the university of applied sciences.

Riihimäki's first cultural well-being plan was also approved at the meeting. The plan serves as a guiding document for the development of cultural well-being in the years 2024–2029.

You can watch the recording of the council meeting from the city's YouTube channel.

The city council will meet next time on Monday, February 3, 2025.
