The city will organize a residents' event about the early childhood education and basic education service network on April 15th.
The City of Riihimäki is organizing an open event for residents on the early childhood education and basic education service network report. The event will be held on Wednesday, April 15, 2026 in the cafeteria/lobby of Pohjolanrinne School (Pohjolankatu 8). The event will start at 18 p.m. The event will be attended by Arja Tylli, Chair of the Education and Welfare Committee, Jari Lausvaara, City Director of Education, Outi Ervasti, Head of Education, and Terhi Joki, Head of Early Childhood Education.
The event will discuss the service network analysis and work on different points. At the points, participants will have the opportunity to leave their opinions on different options for the service network for schools and daycare centers. You can familiarize yourself with the options in advance from the draft report.
The resident meeting is part of the preparation and resident participation related to the service network analysis.
City residents can also influence the service network analysis by responding to the resident survey. The survey is open until Sunday, April 19. Go to the survey (zef.fi).
The City of Riihimäki is currently reviewing its daycare and school network. The aim of the review is to find the best possible network of daycare and school facilities in a situation where the number of children is decreasing significantly.
The views of children and young people are also sought to support the service network. Pupils from the city's comprehensive schools will have the opportunity to share what they consider important at school as part of their lessons. Children in early childhood education will also be able to participate.
The project group for updating the daycare and school network is the Education and Welfare Board.
The city council decided to start the update work in December 2025. The city is tasked with conducting a study in spring 2026, involving city residents, collecting information and stakeholder views. Once the study is completed, it will be submitted to the city council for decision-making. The study includes a few alternative models for the city's service network.
The target schedule for completion of the work is May 2026. The city council will likely decide on the kindergarten and school network in June.
