At its meeting on Monday, May 6, 2024, the Riihimäki city council decided, among other things, on the service network of schools and daycare centers, as well as on the Kokonharju site plan, changes to the site plan, and land division.

The council decided that the Eastern school and daycare center will not be built. According to the decision, the transfer of students from Peltosaari school to other schools will be planned after listening to the parties involved, services for families in the Peltosaari area will be developed, and a playground/local sports center will be built in the area. The decision also includes the evaluation of the use of the main building of the Junailijanjakatu daycare center and the abandonment of the building in 2027.

The council accepted Riitta Takala's (mayor) amendment proposal, according to which, in addition to the Patastenmäki and Lasitehta schools, the Herajoki school will also continue to operate. The council's decision to reduce the city's sports facilities. The decision was made after several speeches and votes.

During the discussion, Silja Nurmi (sd.) proposed, supported by several councilors, that the matter be returned to preparation. The proposal did not receive sufficient support from the council, as did the proposal regarding the construction of the two-tier Itäinen school.

The final decision was supported by 27 councilors, while 16 abstained. 26 residential blocks in Kokonharju

The city council approved Kokonharju's site plan, its amendment and plot division. As a result of the scheme, a new residential area close to nature, dominated by small houses, is being born in Kokkoon. In 2027, an apartment fair is planned to be held in the area located about three kilometers away from the train station. The area is currently undeveloped and mostly forested.

During the hearing of the case, Juha Peltola (ps.) proposed that the Kokonharju housing fair area will not be built, and the old Koko area will not be rezoned until the real costs and environmental effects are clear. Peltola's restitution motion lapsed as unprofitable.

A total of 26 residential blocks, one service block, extensive local recreation areas and a playground are coming to the area. The amount of residential building rights in the area is approximately 32 floor square meters, which means approximately 000 new residents in the planning area.
