The city council extended the free second degree
The Riihimäki city council decided to extend the free secondary education to also apply to young people who have transferred to upper secondary school in the fall of 2021 from middle school, folk high school or preparatory education.
After the change, all first-year students who started their studies at Riihimäki high school in the fall of 2021 will be treated in the same way as young people with compulsory education who received a certificate of completion of basic education after 1.1.2021 January XNUMX. According to the Compulsory Education Act, which entered into force in August, those who transferred directly from basic education to second level this fall are included in the scope of free education.
The council's decision concerns first-year students born in 2021 or 2004 who started their high school studies at Riihimäki high school in autumn 2005.
The decision does not apply to possible compensation for the computers the students have acquired themselves, as they are the students' personal property. Regarding other learning materials and the necessary software licenses, the high school rector will refund the learning materials to the students in accordance with the purchase price of the high school.
