At the meeting on Monday 4.12.2023 December XNUMX, the Riihimäki city council discussed, among other things, the target network for walking and cycling, as well as the centralization of the services of the civic college, the art school and the music college in Kalevantalo.

The city council unanimously returned the decision regarding colleges and the art school back to preparation. According to the government, in the further preparation, the price at which Kalevantalo, Monari and the so-called the mandatory repair needs of the old town hall could be implemented. Mandatory needs include, for example, making properties accessible. In addition, the purpose of use for the old town hall must be presented.

Mayor Jouni Eho's proposal according to the proposal, the civic college, art school and music college would have moved to the former business school in 2028. The proposal also included the renovation of the youth center Monari and the Kalevantalo auditorium wing. According to the previous service network decision, the university services, the textile mill and the Monari premises were to be located in the so-called To the university building. The city currently does not have a plot for a house.

The survey work regarding the services of the civic college, art school and music college is a continuation of the service network decision approved by the city council on 29.8.2022 August 27.2.2023 and the needs survey of the old town hall and Kalevantalo launched by the city government on XNUMX February XNUMX.

According to the plan for sustainable mobility, cycling is promoted by updating the target network plan for cycling made in 2014, and with regard to walking, the emphasis on walking in the downtown area is promoted.
