At its meeting on Monday, June 15, 2026, the Riihimäki City Board discussed, among other things, updating the city's strategy, finances, and the strategic cooperation agreement between the municipalities of Kanta-Häme, the Häme Regional Council, and the Kanta-Häme Wellbeing Area.

The city government noted the draft city strategy and made a few changes to the strategy's wording. The changes highlighted, among other things, the well-being of children and young people, children's rights, culture, diverse education, and high-quality upbringing and education.

The city strategy is a significant policy, as it guides the city's most important decision-making, planning and development. The name, vision and some of the new emphases in the updated proposal are:

The draft strategy will next be sent to the boards, influential bodies, subsidiaries and Riihimäen Vete for a comment round. The entire proposal for the updated city strategy can be viewed in the appendix to the city board's agenda. The city council will decide on the city strategy in the autumn. The new updated strategy will be accompanied by a more detailed Next Riihimäki implementation program.

In addition to the strategy, the city government discussed and made the following decisions:

The City Board approved the principles for preparing the 2027 budget and the 2027–2029 financial plan, their preparation framework and guidelines, and the sector-specific budget framework. In addition, the City Board obliged the sectors to prepare their budget proposals in accordance with the framework. The city's second stable economy program aims to achieve adjustments of ten million euros for the plan period. The decision was made after a vote.
The government approved the land use agreement for the Travel Center. The city enters into a land use agreement when it implements a change in the local plan for privately owned land. The agreement includes, among other things, how the city will be compensated for the increase in value. The Travel Center is owned by Hämeen University of Applied Sciences (HAMK), Kiinteistö Oy Riihimäen Matkakeskus and Business Riihimäki (Riihimäen Tilat ja Kehitys Oy).
The City Council approved the strategic cooperation agreement between the Kanta-Häme Association of Municipalities of Häme and the Kanta-Häme Wellbeing Area. The aim of the agreement is to support the implementation of the parties' strategies, promote well-being work and strengthen the vitality and attractiveness of the area. The agreement clarifies the cooperation, its structures and creates the conditions for long-term and systematic cooperation. Numerous goals have been defined for the cooperation, including multidisciplinary and active cooperation and strengthening the effectiveness of measures.

Monday's meeting was the last of the spring term. The City Council will meet again after the summer break on August 10th.
