The city of Riihimäki and the municipalities of Loppi and Hausjärvi have been looking for ways to strengthen their cooperation in matters related to the vitality and economic policy of the region.

The regional management group, consisting of the leaders of the three municipalities and the chairmen of the municipal governments and councils, decided in the autumn of 2024 to commission a preliminary study to map out how to intensify cooperation. The study, carried out by MDI, a consulting firm specializing in regional development, was completed in late 2024.

Based on the preliminary study, attracting business investments in particular and the strategic land use planning that supports this work are seen as topics in which these municipalities want to intensify cooperation. In addition, it was decided to invite the municipality of Janakkala to join the regional management group.

Based on the study, a draft of cooperation agreement has now been prepared. The agreement will be submitted to the governments and councils of these four municipalities for consideration.

The Mayor of Riihimäki will propose to the City Board on Monday, March 10, 2025, that it would approve the regional cooperation agreement. If the City Board approves the agreement, the matter will continue at the Riihimäki City Council meeting on March 31.

The Hausjärvi municipal government will also discuss the agreement on March 10, the Janakkala municipal government on March 17, and the Loppi municipal government on March 24.

If the governments and councils in all municipalities approve the proposed agreement, the municipalities will increase joint work and resources from the beginning of 2026 to promote business investments and strategic planning of land use in business areas.

The goal of the cooperation agreement is to create 1000 new jobs in the region by 2030. The goal is also to achieve two significant investments in the area formed by the municipalities each year through cooperation.
