The City of Riihimäki will launch the renovation of Kauppakatu and Valtakatu in the summer of 2026. The project will be implemented as a joint project with Riihimäen Vesi, and will simultaneously renovate both the street environment and the area's water supply lines.

The street environment and water supply are being renovated

The works will focus on the section of Kauppakatu between Hämeenkatu and Valtakatu, and on the section of Valtakatu between Kauppakatu and Keskuskatu.

On Kauppakatu, the street's structures, accessibility, and pedestrian and cycling arrangements will be improved. On Valtakatu, street structures will be fundamentally improved, pavements will be renewed, and necessary street area repairs will be carried out.

As part of the project, Riihimäen Vesi will renovate the area's water and sewer lines. The goal is to ensure the operational reliability of water supply well into the future.

Construction work will begin on June 8, 2026, and the project is scheduled to be completed in November 2026. STM Infra Oy is the main contractor for the project.

The construction site affects traffic and parking

The construction site will affect traffic, parking, and pedestrian and cycling routes in the area during different phases of the work. Traffic arrangements during the work will be implemented in phases, and access to the properties will be maintained throughout the construction period.

We ask for patience from those in the area during the construction period. The aim of the renovation is to create a more functional, safer and more pleasant street environment in the city centre, while also renewing the municipal engineering in the area, which is in need of renovation.
