The newly paved asphalt is on the street surface and the recently painted curb and centerline markings have been applied to the street. The street is surrounded by green vegetation.

Smaller asphalt patching works have started in Riihimäki this week. Larger resurfacing works and road markings will be carried out during June–July. The summer 2026 paving works and road markings will be carried out by Avanor Oy.

Resurfacing will be carried out within the budget on, among other things, Kokonkatu, Merkoskenkatu, Pohjoisenna Rautatienkatu, Lopentie, Kontiontie and Meijerintie, as well as on the Erkyläntie, Uhkolankatu and Teerimäenkatu light traffic routes. In addition, the parkway between Pohjolanrinne School and Oravankatu will be paved.

Over 100 people wanted to see paving projects for light traffic routes

A total of 112 street users responded to the survey on the paving of pedestrian routes carried out in the spring. The majority of responses came from respondents aged 31–45. Some of the paving sites for 2026 were selected based on the survey results.

Based on the survey, the light traffic routes on Erkyläntie and Teerimäenkatu and the parkway between Pohjolanrinne School and Oravankatu were selected as sites for resurfacing. The survey also identified sites that fall under the maintenance responsibility of the ELY Centre or other actors. The observations have been forwarded to the relevant parties.

All responses received were valuable, and they will also be utilized in planning maintenance projects in the coming years. The City of Riihimäki thanks all those who participated in the survey for their activity and development suggestions.

Exercise caution in work areas

Resurfacing works and road markings will improve the condition of streets and pedestrian routes and traffic safety in various parts of the city. The works may cause temporary traffic arrangements and delays in the vicinity of the work areas. Motorists are asked to follow the instructions at the work sites and to exercise caution in the work areas.

During the summer, worn roadway and pedestrian crossing markings will also be reinforced. The aim of the work is to improve traffic safety and promote safe movement for all road users. The markings will be renewed primarily on public transport routes, near schools and in other locations important for traffic safety.
