Public art is planned for the public areas of Jokikylä. The draft of the Jokikylä art project was ordered from sculptor Jasmin Anoschkin. Three different options have been ordered from him for the whole, a series of sculptures. The construction project is several years old and progresses according to the construction schedule of the area.

The largest public art project started in Riihimäki

The Jokikylä area art project is the largest public art project in Riihimäki so far. The artist selection was made by Riihimäki's public art working group Rita. The working group has a multi-professional representation of office holders, trustees and an expert in public art.

The work locations will become clear as the planning progresses. The outdoor areas such as the park along the Vantaanjoki, the northern entrance square and the bridge crossing the Vantaanjoki are under review. The process is carried out by combining art and environmental design.

In the Jokikylä area, the aim is to create a collection of works of art that creates the joy of discovery and insight and interests people of all ages, including children. Jasmin Anoschkin's sculptures exude joy of life and the power of imagination. The artworks he creates are playful and have everyday phenomena moving in our time presented in a humorous way. The artist often uses ceramics and wood as materials in his works. In the works to be placed outside in Jokikylä, the materials will be weather resistant.

"My works are often some kind of animal figures, whose final species, however, is a mystery to everyone but themselves. You can spend time with my works and do different things. They are pets that you can drink your morning coffee with and talk to them, or you can pet them when you come home from school. I hope that future residents of Jokikylä of different ages will find different stories in them for a long time to come," says Anoschkin.

The draft will be completed in April

The draft of Jokikylä will be completed in mid-April 2024. Due to time management and financial reasons, the order will be made as a direct order. The order for the actual artwork will be decided in the spring after the sketch review. The first works of art can be completed in the area in 2025–2027 at the earliest. However, the schedule will become more precise as the work progresses.

The artist who graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts (now the Academy of Fine Arts of the University of Art) lives and works in Helsinki. She has been a member of the Arabian Art Association since 2014. Jasmin Anoschki's works have recently been exhibited at the Hostler & Burrows gallery in New York 2023, Galleria Halmetojja in Helsinki 2020 and Mänttä visual arts weeks 2019. Her public works include the commissioned work The birth of random varieties, which is implemented in the family center of the center of Espoo in 2022.

In the eighth episode of the second season of Meeri Koutaniemi's Irti kuvasta documentary (YLE), Jasmine is visited. The episode is found About Yle Areena.

Background from Riihimäki's public artworks

Since 2015, new public works of art have been planned in connection with construction on Riihimäki. In 2020, Riihimäki's city government approved the principles of Riihimäki's public art.

In recent years, a dozen new works of art have been completed for the city's public art collection, the latest of which is Viljami Heinonen's Over hill, over dale, Thorough bush, thorough brier (2023), which was unveiled in June on the facade of the new summer theater in Riihimäki. In addition to the Jokikylä art project, sculptor Aaron Heino's One Of A Kind sculpture for Hämeenaukio is underway, which will be completed in the summer of 2024.
