Riihimäki comprehensive schools will once again be offering several free hobby groups based on the Finnish Hobby Model this school year. There are nearly 1 different hobby groups available for 9st–50th graders. Hobbies range from various sports to music, visual arts and cooking.
Familiar and popular hobbies from previous academic years will continue in the 2025–2026 academic year, such as circus, filmmaking, climbing, and ice sports. New hobbies have also been added to the selection, such as woodworking and theater.
Pupils are also allowed to participate in hobbies other than their own school.
Registration will take place from September 1 to 7, 2025. If more participants register for the group than there are places available, participants will be drawn.
Speed is not the key, as parents can register their child any day during the week. Those who have been accepted will receive an email on Monday, September 8th, informing them of their admission to the group.
The hobby season begins on Monday, September 15. You can register for groups with space and join throughout the school year. For groups that are full, you can register for a waiting list and wait for a spot to become available. Spots become available throughout the school year.
The guardians of elementary school students have received a Wilma message about this.
The selection of hobbies for the school year has been formed based on the wishes of the students and the resources available. A survey by the Finnish National Board of Education was carried out in all comprehensive schools in Riihimäki in December 2024. In the survey, children and young people were able to express their hobby wishes.
The aim of the Finnish model of hobby is to support the well-being of children and young people by enabling every child and young person to have a pleasant and free hobby during the school day.
Based on applications, the Ministry of Education and Culture grants special grants to municipalities to implement the Hobby Finland model. The goal is to instill the Finnish model of hobby as a permanent way of operating in the municipalities.
Hobbies are organized for students in grades 1–9 of basic education.
Welcome to practice!
