Free bus transportation to the children's concert – Riihimäki Summer Concerts feature plenty of free programs
This year, Riihimäki Summer Concerts and the City of Riihimäki are investing especially in children and, in cooperation with Osuuskauppa Hämeenmaa, are organizing a large children's concert at the festival. The free children's concert will be held at the Riihimäki Summer Theatre on Saturday, June 6, 2026 at 13 p.m.
Päistikka, chosen as the children's music band of the year 2025, will be on stage. In addition to free admission to the concert, there is a free bus ride for families from Riihimäki, and juice will be served for children. It is worth arriving early, as there will be fun activities for children in the summer theater area before the concert starts.
“The festival wants to focus especially on the youngest members of the family and, with a high-quality program, attracts families to participate in the Päistika functional concert,” says Petri Junna, executive director of Riihimäki Summer Concerts.
The free ride to the children's concert is provided in two shifts. The first shuttle to the summer theater leaves at 11:30 from the Jyrätie stop and the second shuttle at 12:15. The route takes about half an hour from Jyrätie to the summer theater. The right stop along the route can be identified by the Summer Concerts poster. The return shuttle after the concert from the summer theater has also been arranged in two shifts, using the same route. The return shuttle leaves from the summer theater at 2 and 2:40 p.m.

Free summer concerts
Riihimäki Summer Concerts works towards accessibility and offers a large number of free concerts in Riihimäki and Loppi during its festival, which will start soon. The program of the free concerts is diverse and the performers include young artists, the country's most famous musicians, and local enthusiasts.
On the opening day of the festival, June 2, the Young Piano Academy, a group of promising young talents, will perform a concert at the Riihimäki Music Institute at 12 noon. In recent years, the Riihimäki Summer Concerts have collaborated with the Instrument Academies. Their activities have expanded and become more established at the same time.
The opening concert at Granit Square is also free of charge and, like last year, hundreds of people are expected to gather there to hear Maria Ylipää and the Töölö Brass Band. The opening concert will start on June 2 at 18 pm. Töölö Brass is a so-called British-style brass band, of which there are not many active in Finland. The orchestra is led by former Chief Conductor of the Finnish Defence Forces Elias Seppälä. Soloist Maria Ylipää is a captivating and charismatic actress and singer. She is skilled in a wide range of different musical styles and is one of the most sought-after soloists in Finland at the moment.
The young pianists' skills can also be admired at free concerts at the Kotokartano Foundation's Puistonkulma on June 3 and at the Riemu Museums on June 4. The program includes a lot of Beethoven and, among others, Chopin and Scriabin. The performers are potential future greats. The concerts are interesting because of the young people's skill and originality in the classical repertoire.
This summer, concerts will also be held in Loppe, and the festival will be participating in the opening of the Loppe Summer Market on June 6. The market will feature African rhythms from the Afrocosmos drum group with Pauliina Diallo.
The theme of the Riihimäki Summer Concerts this year is Africa and its influence on Western music.
