Does your child want to take a music class in 1st grade?

The application for the first grade music class at Eteläinen koulu is open until December 15. The Eteläinen koulu school has music classes in grades 1-5.

A student place in the upcoming 1st grade music class is a priority student place and includes the right to school transportation benefits in accordance with the school transportation regulations, mainly by public transport.

If you would like to apply for a place for your child in the 1st grade music class at Eteläinen School, please follow these steps:

• Please complete the electronic registration form no later than December 15, 2025. Go to fill out the form (forms.office.com).
• Prepare with your child for a small entrance exam. The entrance exam includes rhythm repetition, melody repetition and a freely chosen song is performed there. In the entrance exam, you can sing, for example, the familiar song Twinkle twinkle little star.
• The entrance exams will be held on Thursday, January 8, Tuesday, January 13, or Wednesday, January 14, 2026. Please choose a date that suits you from the form.
• Come to Eteläinen School for the entrance exam on the day and approximately at the time you have chosen. Be prepared to wait for your turn in the lobby.
• Please enter through the blue main doors. There is a waiting area in the lobby and from there you will be called in turn to classroom 12 (class 2A). Teachers Hilla Vahvelainen (tel. 040 709 1672) and Minna Välimäki (tel. 040 581 5163) will be present at the entrance exam.

Students are selected for the class based on entrance exams. A music class is established if at least 16 students are admitted to the class based on the entrance exam.

Eteläinen koulu is located in the immediate vicinity of the center of Riihimäki, at Lopentie 11. The school has approximately 300 students in grades 1–5. In the sixth grade, students move to Kara School and students in the music-focused class move to Harjunrinne School.
