Apply for an early childhood education place for your child by March 31st at the latest.

If your family has a child who needs to start early childhood education in August 2025, apply for an early childhood education place no later than March 31, 2025. Applications for early childhood education organized by the City of Riihimäki must be submitted no later than four months before the desired start date of early childhood education. The application is completed in the eDaisy transaction serviceAn application submitted by the end of March gives you a good chance of getting the place you want.

If applying for a place four months in advance is not possible, for example due to a sudden change in work or study situation, it is advisable to apply for a place immediately when the need is known. However, in this case, it is worth being prepared for the possibility that the child will not get a place in the daycare center of your choice. In this case, the child will get a place in the daycare center where there is space.

As alternative an open daycare club

Applying for open daycare in Aapeli is also relevant for the 2025–2026 season. The club is open for three hours a day, either in the morning or in the afternoon, depending on the family's choice. The club is attended one or two days a week.

Applications for clubs are made using an electronic early childhood education application. Continuing club members also apply again. Children aged 3–5 who are not in early childhood education can apply for clubs.

The clubs are intended for children aged 3–5 who are in home care. The clubs are child-oriented, low-threshold activities and are run by early childhood education professionals. If you have been considering enrolling your child in early childhood education, but are not sure if the time is right and you want to keep your child in home care, club activities are a good option.

Introducing robotics in early childhood education

Riihimäki has approximately 1000 children in early childhood education in kindergartens or family day care, as well as preschool, every year.

Play and joy are visible and audible in Riihimäki's early childhood education. Early childhood education focuses on social and emotional skills. In Riihimäki, children are introduced to robotics already in early childhood education through playing, exploring and experimenting. Linguistic skills and reading are practiced under the guidance of adults.
