The new Veterinary Care Act will enter into force at the beginning of 2026. The municipal veterinary service provision of South Häme Environmental Health will remain largely unchanged under the new law.

Municipal veterinarians provide basic veterinary services for the pets of residents in the South Häme Environmental Health Area at the Riihimäki and Jokioinen offices. These include vaccinations and the care of sick animals both on farms and in clinics. Basic dental care for animals is also still available. In addition, a veterinary emergency service operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week for both small and large animals.

The price of additional services will increase

The new law defines certain services, such as dog sterilization or pet imaging, as complementary services. The price of complementary services will increase because they will be priced on a market-based basis under the new law. This means that the municipality will not be able to support complementary veterinary services from public funds, but they must be priced according to the actual costs of veterinary care.

The new law also changes the payment process for customers visiting the clinic. From now on, customers will pay at the clinic in two parts: one payment to the veterinarian and the other to the municipality.

Appointments can be booked on weekday mornings.

Appointments can be made and advice is available by phone on weekdays between 8:00 and 9:30. The appointment number for the Riihimäki office is 019 758 5780 and for the Jokioinen office is 040 330 5786. In urgent cases, please leave a message on the answering machine between 8:00 and 16:00 on weekdays. The emergency service operates between 16:00 and 8:00 on weekdays and on weekends and public holidays at 0600 171 70 (chargeable).
