The city assigns a school place in the fall of 2025 to students starting the first grade of elementary school. The decision on student enrollment will be mailed to guardians on February 11, 2025 and entered in the Wilma student administration system on February 14, 2025. The decision will be accompanied by instructions on creating a Wilma ID and instructions on confirming a school place and applying for a secondary school place. The decision to enroll students is made for children born in 2018 and older who are not yet in school. The school place must be confirmed in Wilma by March 2, 2025.

In elementary schools, paid afternoon activities are organized immediately after school hours, alternatively until 16 or 17 p.m. Applying for afternoon activities in the eDaisy transaction service and the search is continuous. For the operating period starting in August 2025, the application must be submitted no later than May 5, 2025. Afternoon activity location decisions will be sent to guardians during May.
Those who have previously participated in the activity must also reapply for a place for the 2025–2026 operating season. The positions are filled according to the criteria defined by the board. The action plan for afternoon activities can be found on the city's website.
According to the Basic Education Act, a year before compulsory schooling begins, the child must participate in pre-school education or other activities that meet the goals of pre-school education. The guardian is responsible for participation. All children born in 2019 will be assigned a pre-school place and the decision on the pre-school place will be sent to the residential address on February 11, 2025. The decision is accompanied by instructions on confirming the place. The place must be confirmed by March 2, 2025. In addition to preschool education, children have the opportunity to receive supplementary early childhood education, which is organized at the preschool. Early childhood education is for a fee and is also organized during the holidays of basic education. It is hoped that families whose children do not have a regular need for full-time early childhood education will primarily apply for open early childhood education at the Junailijanjakatu daycare center. The Junailijakankatu kindergarten has club activities for children aged 3–5. Clubs are paid. The Junailijankatu daycare also operates a free open daycare.
Early childhood education places and club places can be applied for throughout the year as needed. You must apply for a place four months before the desired start time. If early childhood education is needed due to the parents' employment, studies or training, it must be applied for no later than two weeks before the child needs an early childhood education place.
New applicants must submit a separate statement about the possible need for early special education.
