Parents will be informed about first-graders' school places and pre-school places in February

The City of Riihimäki will allocate a school place to students starting the first grade of basic education in the fall of 2026. The decision on student admission will be mailed to guardians on February 10, 2026 and will be published in the Wilma student administration system on February 13, 2026. The decision will be accompanied by instructions on creating a Wilma ID and instructions on confirming a school place and applying for a secondary school place. The student admission decision will be made for all children born in 2019 and older who are not yet in school. The school place must be confirmed in Wilma by March 1, 2026.

In Riihimäki, the basic education schools that accept students in the first grade are Eteläinen, Herajoki, Lasitehdas, Patastenmäki, Pohjoinen and Uramo. Check out the comprehensive schools on the city's website.

Entrance exams for those applying for music-focused education will be held in January during weeks 2 and 3. Information about applying for music classes has been posted on the city's website and in the Daisy system. Read the information about applying to the music department.

The secondary school placement application will start on February 13 and end on March 1, 2026. Decisions on secondary school admission will be announced in the Wilma student administration system on March 23, 2026 and sent by email if the guardian has given permission for electronic notification. Otherwise, the decision will be mailed to the guardian.

Afternoon activity

Paid afternoon activities will be organized at elementary schools. Applications for afternoon activities will be announced separately later in spring 2026.

Preschool education

In the 2026–2027 school year, preschool education will affect all children born in 2020 living in Riihimäki. All children born in 2020 will be assigned a preschool place and the decision on the preschool place will be notified by 13 February 2026. The decision will be accompanied by instructions on confirming the place. The place must be confirmed by 1 March 2026.

The secondary preschool place application process will start on February 13 and end on March 1, 2026. Decisions on secondary preschool places will be announced on March 23, 2026. Instructions for applying for a secondary preschool place are included with the preschool decision.

Early childhood education supplementing preschool education

All preschool establishments provide supplementary early childhood education in addition to preschool education. If a child needs supplementary early childhood education in addition to preschool education (four hours a day), guardians must report the need for supplementary early childhood education when accepting a preschool place using a preschool notification in the eDaisy service.
