Digia becomes part of the Define network

The nationwide Define network connects top experts and companies in the defense and security sector. The goal is to develop new defense innovations for the needs of the Defense Forces and NATO, and to create growth and jobs in Finland.

Software and service company Digia has started cooperation with Defence Innovation Network Finland (Define) and is strengthening the network's operations, especially with data, artificial intelligence and integration expertise.

Define is a national cooperation network launched by the City of Riihimäki, with the aim of developing defense and security expertise and creating new innovations. The network brings together top experts and companies in the field, and promotes the utilization of civilian solutions for the needs of the Finnish Defense Forces and NATO.

"We want to be actively involved in developing defense and security expertise and solutions. We bring our strong expertise in data-based and artificial intelligence-supported operations and integrations of demanding system entities to the network for use, among other things. The collaboration supports our growth goals and our role as a trusted partner of the Defense Forces. Through Define, we will be able to engage in even more diverse development work," says Tero Palokangas, Director of Digia's Defense Business.

"We have expanded this year to become a national player. We want to create growth and jobs in Finland through defense innovations. Digia significantly strengthens our network with its software and application expertise and solid experience in the defense industry," says Teemu Seppälä, Director of Technology and Innovation at the City of Riihimäki.

A new type of testing platform accelerates the transfer of innovations to production use

As part of the collaboration, Digia is involved in the development of Define's AI-powered integration and experimentation platform (AI Foundry). It helps new defense innovations to be efficiently piloted and then put into production. The platform was launched at the NATO Innovation Range event in Finland from 1 to 10 June.

"With AI Foundry, for example, various AI pilots can be tested through NATO exercises, other innovation events, and company field tests. This enables faster transfer to production and thus the utilization of new solutions," says Henri Kivioja, CEO of IAM RAIN (Lempea Edge Oy).

"AI Foundry is an effective way for us and other Define partner companies and startups to present and test new ideas and services together with various NATO actors. It opens up completely new growth and development opportunities for both individual organizations and the entire Finnish defense and security expertise," Palokangas adds.
