Adapteo is building a 13-hectare factory area in Riihimäki
Adapteo Finland Oy, a manufacturer of modular space solutions, is building a new factory in Riihimäki. The company will centralize the storage, factory renovation and construction of building modules in the Riihimäenportti business area. The new production facilities are designed specifically for the customization of reusable modules.
Adapteo, a provider of flexible space solutions for the public and private sectors, is building a production complex in Riihimäki, where the company's storage, renovation and customization operations currently located in Järvenpää and Ylöjärvi will be concentrated. Construction will start in March 2026, and is scheduled for completion in late summer 2027. Production at full capacity will start in early 2028. Tekova Oy is responsible for the construction.
The Riihimäki production facilities will employ approximately 50 people when completed, but the number of employees can even double during the high season. The area will have approximately 9,000 square meters of production, warehouse and office space. Handling the building modules also requires a lot of outdoor space, so the yard area will be over 100,000 square meters in size. The office space will be built from Adapteo's own modules. The new premises are aimed at achieving the Excellent level of the BREEAM environmental certificate, and they will enable Adapteo to achieve its net zero goals by 2030.
“The city of Riihimäki has acted flexibly, listening to our needs. For example, the city reduced the construction obligation for a plot because our operations need a large yard area, but not a huge building. Centralizing operations in Riihimäki will make production more efficient, shorten module delivery times, and reduce transportation costs and environmental impacts,” says Niku Hartikainen, Chief Operating Officer of Adapteo.
The new production facilities are designed primarily for the refurbishment and customization of reusable modules. The reusability of the modules and the resulting very low carbon footprint are key competitive advantages for Adapteo, which also supports its customers in their environmental goals.
Adapteo's mobile and adaptable space solutions are used as temporary solutions, such as emergency shelters, but they are also suitable for permanent needs. Typical applications include schools and daycare centers, assisted living, healthcare facilities, office space and accommodation. The company's business model is based on renting modular spaces, so their implementation does not require significant investments from customers, and after the lease agreement ends, the spaces can be reused and customized for the next use.
“It is wonderful that we are entering the next phase with Adapteo in a collaboration that has gone very well so far. As a nationally significant pioneer in the circular economy, Adapteo supports Riihimäki's sustainable growth and offers new opportunities for future creators,” says Anna-Riitta Kujala, Director of Vitality in Riihimäki.
“We are delighted to be able to implement Adapteo's significant premises project in Riihimäki. This is a project developed in-house by Tekova, which combines modern production and warehouse facilities tailored to Adapteo's individual needs with the principles of sustainable development. We have strong experience in building in accordance with BREEAM-certified projects, and when completed, the premises will support Adapteo's environmental goals in terms of both functionality and energy efficiency,” says Jussi Lahtinen, Business Director at Tekova.
Riihimäenportti is located on the Helsinki-Tampere motorway at the northern interchange at Riihimäki, a busy traffic hub in southern Finland. The motorway intersects with main road 54 at Riihimäenportti, which carries traffic transversely from the Lahti region to Tammela in western Finland. Riihimäenportti is an ideal location for logistics services.
