The city of Riihimäki has tendered the seasonal lighting of Temppelikatu. The city council selected five of the fifteen plans to be voted on. Plans were selected for voting, which the jury found to be very visually pleasing and where the cityscape was well taken into account. Voting begins on Monday, September 30.

“Many people certainly thought Temppelikatu was the most beautiful street in Riihimäki at Christmas time, when the linden trees were wrapped in chains of lights,” says city gardener Päivi Sundman.
“The newly renovated trees are still small and growing, so light chains in the trees are not suitable as a lighting solution,” Sundman continues.
The renewed Temppelikatu has twelve pairs of double-branched lampposts, i.e. a total of 24 lampposts. The seasonal lights will be attached to the light poles. The four plans to be voted on have one light decoration per pole and one plan has two decorations per pole.
Voting for seasonal lights is open from September 30 to October 6, 2024. The plan with the most votes will be ordered. Voting takes place on the Riihimäki participation platform that has become familiar from participatory budgeting. All persons aged 12 and older registered in the city of Riihimäki have the right to vote.
The participation platform requires electronic login with bank credentials or a mobile certificate. Pupils of schools in Riihimäkä can use their MPASSid IDs.
Inclusion is one of the central themes of the strategy of the city of Riihimäki. By participating in the vote, the townspeople can have a tangible impact on Riihimäki's future cityscape. The acquisition of the seasonal elements is part of the Temppelikatu renewal and is financed from this year's municipal technology investment program. The goal is to have new seasonal lighting on Temppelikatu by Christmas 2024.
