Piikinmäki daycare center
Piikinmäki daycare center is a bright and cozy daycare center with 121 places and five groups of children. Our daycare center, which was completed in 2011, offers day care to children who regularly need round-the-clock care. In addition, we act as a back-up care center for children who occasionally need round-the-clock care.
In addition to the administrative director, six early childhood education teachers, 16 early childhood nannies, a special assistant and a family day care substitute work in our daycare center. We also work closely with a special early childhood education teacher.
Child care shifts for an entire care week (Mon–Fri) must be reported at DaisyFamily by midnight on Sunday of the previous week.

High-quality early childhood education regardless of the time of day!
We want to offer the child high-quality early childhood education so that he has the best possible conditions for growth, development and learning. All children have the right to a comfortable day at kindergarten, regardless of the time of day. Our goal is a healthy child.
The values defined in the basics of the early childhood education plan (the independent value of childhood, growing as a person, the rights of the child, the diversity of families and a healthy and sustainable lifestyle) form the basis of our activities. In our unit, we also take into account the values of the city of Riihimäki through the joint strategy of Riihimäki early childhood education.
Educational cooperation, discussion and togetherness!
In early childhood education, we cooperate with parents, and it is parents who are the best experts on their own children. In educational cooperation, we work together for the best of the child. In this cooperation, mutual flexibility, caring and equal encounters are emphasized.

In accordance with Section 13 of the Early Childhood Education Act, shift care is arranged in the evenings, at night, on weekends, and on weekdays and public holidays in daycare centers or family daycare.
Shift care must be arranged to the extent necessary for a child who needs it due to the work or study of a parent or other guardian.1. Right to shift care
- Shift care refers to care needed outside of weekdays between 6 am and 18 pm.
- Children whose care needs are based on the guardians' shift work or studies are entitled to early childhood education shift care. When applying for shift care, guardians must submit a certificate from their employer of shift work/evening studies, or entrepreneurs must submit another written statement of working hours in accordance with the service guidance instructions.
- In the case of new families, when assessing the need for shift care, the work, studies, or lack thereof of the child's guardian's new spouse is irrelevant.
- If the guardians have divorced and the child is cared for by them, for example, on alternate weeks, and the other guardian needs to provide care for the child, it is in the child's best interest to have only one care place in the municipality.
- Shift care is intended for children who need shift care regularly. If the need for shift care is occasional, for a maximum of 10 days of care in the autumn and spring seasons, the child's early childhood education place is generally placed in a day group and the child is in shift care in so-called reserve care.
- Child care times must include weekly days off, holidays and vacations (weekly days off = the number of weekends and holidays equivalent to a month).
- A guardian's hobby or supervision does not entitle them to arrange shift care.
- When the need for shift care ends, the child's early childhood education place may be transferred to a day group or another daycare center.
2. Shift care opening hours and meals provided
- The 24-hour daycare is open for children according to the designated care times.
- During the early childhood education day, children are offered the same meals as those offered during their stay at the kindergarten.
3. Shift care treatment times
- Guardians report their child's care times in advance, according to the instructions, based on the guardians' work or study times, by the deadline. After the deadline, future care needs are negotiated separately with the director of the early childhood education unit.
- Guardians must immediately notify the daycare center of any cancellations of booked care appointments via the electronic system or directly to the daycare center (child's illness or other absence).
- The child's daily care time should be a maximum of 10 hours.
- In shift care, nighttime silence is observed between 22 p.m. and 05 a.m. During this time, children are not brought to or picked up from care, but all children are guaranteed a peaceful and uninterrupted night's sleep.
- Children whose guardians are on a late evening shift and an early morning shift the next day can stay overnight at a daycare center.
- After the caregivers' night shift, the child can continue care the next day, if necessary, due to the caregiver's rest after the night shift.
