Early special education

Riihimäki has an early childhood special education unit, which is responsible for coordinating the organization of early childhood education and preschool support throughout the city. The early childhood special education unit includes a unit director, early childhood special education teachers who consult and act as resources, as well as early childhood special education childminders and group assistants.

A child participating in early childhood education and preschool education has the right to receive the support required for their individual development, learning and well-being as part of other early childhood education and preschool education activities. Early, sufficient and correctly targeted support promotes the child's development, learning and well-being. The support provided is built on the child's strengths and interests. A support plan is drawn up for the child in cooperation with the guardians, the implementation of which is monitored regularly.

Children who need support are generally placed in local daycare centers, and support can also be provided in smaller groups.
