Collaborative music making

Collaborative music making is a strong part of the music school's teaching. Joint music making is carried out at the Riihimäki College of Music in orchestras, ensembles and choirs.

String groups

The music school has six string groups. Minijouset is an orchestra of players who are in the early stages of their studies, which is usually joined in the second academic year at the latest. Players who have completed basic level 1 can join the string orchestra. String players who have completed basic level 3 play in the chamber orchestra. Players from other instruments can also be included in the orchestra.

The Musikkiopisto Chamber Orchestra also performs under the name Riihimäki Chamber Orchestra. Riihimäki's chamber orchestra includes, in addition to the college's most advanced students, music enthusiasts from outside the college. According to the agreement, adult, advanced players who are enthusiastic about maintaining their hobby can be accepted into the orchestra. Wind players also participate in the chamber orchestra's activities as needed.

Brass bands

The music school has several brass bands, from the very elementary level (school orchestras and Ekabändi) to more advanced ensembles. Wind and percussion players starting this fall can participate in Ekabändi, Junior Wind Orchestra who have been playing for 1-4 years, and players with more experience in either the Riihimäki Railwaymen's Orchestra or the Riihimäki Workers' Association Orchestra. In addition to wind and percussion players, for example pianists, bassists and guitarists, everyone who is enthusiastic about wind music, are welcome to join the ensembles!

Rhythm bands

Band teachers are flute teacher Markku Hirvonen, percussion teacher Mikael Heikkilä, guitar teacher Marko Kampman and band teacher Tuomo Komonen. The students of vocal teacher Annamaria Hannonen and Maarit Aura are seen and heard as soloists in bands.
