  • The City Museum's park takes over on 15.12. starting in the dark, the light works shine with their hazy figures.

Alexander Reichstein's light work Time to Fly installation can be found at Rautatienpuisto (Öllerinkatu 3, Riihimäki) from Friday 15.12. Dreamlike sleeping human figures fly high above the museum grounds. "We dream while we sleep. Sometimes we fly in our sleep. It is fascinating how the body of a sleeping person often resembles someone who is actually flying, jumping, running and climbing. My sculptures depict various sleeping people, men, women and children, lying on pillows, sometimes under blankets from their beds, floating above us. The installation is accompanied by quiet, sleepy music, which is excerpts from Erik Satie's Gnossiennes." Alexander Reichstein describes his work Time to Fly on his own website.

The Time to Fly installation can be seen from 15.12.2023 – 7.1.2024 Öllerinkatu 3, Riihimäki.

Blue human figures fly in the same direction in the dark night sky.

  • Voimala's Valo light art piece combines light, sound and smoke.

Riihimäki's old Voimala, which was once used to generate electricity to heat and illuminate the city, once again produces light and joy for the townspeople in the form of a light work called Voimalan valo.

"When I was asked how I would light Voimala, I immediately remembered the wonderful rows of windows that are in both the generator room and the boiler room. I remembered how wonderfully the light comes in through those already slightly broken windows and at the same time my intuition said that the light must now come from the inside out. In my mind, I saw rays of light shining from within, illuminating the surrounding city and sky, in lively, rhythmic and at the same time somewhat mysterious patterns and shapes. Indeed, the light must come from within, both symbolically and concretely. This is exactly the kind of message that is appropriate at this time." the designer and producer of the light work, Sampo Manninen from Pixoi Oy, tells about the creation of the work.

"It is important for each of us to find our own inner light, it helps us see through superficial things and stay in our own strength and wisdom. The Voimalan Valo light art piece reminds us of this and tunes us to see our Voimala with new eyes. " Sampo Manninen summarizes the important and current message of the work Voimalan valo.
