Oasis swamps prevail in southern Finland

A bog usually consists of several different plant communities, i.e. bog types. The same type of marsh plant species always develops under certain ecological growth conditions. The most important ecological factors are the nutrient content of the growing area and the drainage conditions.

Similar marsh associations form a marsh association type, the distribution of which is primarily determined by climate and landforms. The predominant type of marsh association in southern Finland is an oasis or raised marsh. On the other hand, monkey swamps prevail in central and northern Finland.

The characteristic oasis swamp consists of three parts

  • In the center is a "curd peat cake" that has grown taller than the rest of the swamp.
  • Laide is the environment of the bog and often also the wetter part that is lower than the center.
  • The edge slide is the sloping part that descends from the center to the device.

Hatlamminsuo is a typical southern Finnish oasis where the equipment and the center stand out clearly.
