Animals of Hatlamminsuo
Abundant and diverse fauna and flora live in the marshes. Alternating with the forest, swamps create fringe zones suitable for many species. Swamps are called Finland's most diverse ecosystem. Several specialized groups of animals also live in the marshes.
As difficult terrain, the marshes offer a peaceful habitat for many mammals and birds. Even many animals that don't actually live in swamps use them in their search for food.
Moose and deer graze on sedge grass, wild hares find food on the edges of marshes, foxes prey on marsh birds and small mammals, terns play their instruments and buzzards may pop dragonflies flying above the marshes.
Butterflies in Hatlamminsuo can be found e.g. cloth butterflies, silver spotted butterflies and vein yellow butterflies. Dragonflies can be seen especially near the springs, typical species found in the marsh are marsh dragonflies, brown dragonflies and pond dragonflies.
The most famous of Hatlamminsuo's reptiles is the viper, after all, their life has been studied in Hatlamminsuo all the way up to a dissertation. Vipers spend the winter on Hatlamminmäki. There are also plenty of frogs and lizards in the swamp.
