On Children's Cultural Saturday, April 25, 2026, the play Molli and the Edge of the Earth will be performed at 11 am and 14 pm at Riihimäki Theatre. Tickets are €17/person.
Based on Katri Kirkkopello's beloved children's book, Molli and the Edge of the Earth is a gentle and hilariously funny children's theater performance about friendship, homesickness, and the courage to enter the world.
Lately, Molli has forgotten to look at the forest beyond the stone fence of her home. She feels strange: her toes are ticklish and her tail is waving wildly. Molli has travel fever!
Molli ja maan ääri, a collaboration between Teatteri Konna and Turku City Theatre, is the work of the same creators as Molli (2015), Molli ja kumma (2018), and Mollistavi mietteitä (2021), which have delighted their audiences many times.
The premiere of the performance Molli and the Edge of the Earth was on the Sopukka stage of the Turku City Theatre on January 22, 2025.
Age recommendation: 3-10 years old
Further information and ticket reservations From the Riihimäki Theatre website Molli and the ends of the earth.
Children's Cultural Saturday on May 23, 2026 from 10 am to 14 pm is organized in collaboration with the Finnish Hunting Museum and the Riihimäki Visual Artists. The theme is mythical nature and the venue is the Finnish Hunting Museum (address: Tehtaankatu 23A).
The event invites children and families to explore forest stories and familiar creatures from folklore in an active and creative way. A group of mythical characters from Finnish folklore will arrive at the Hunting Museum's courtyard, and children will get to know them during the event. Some of the works will remain in the museum's courtyard as environmental art for the summer.
The Cultural Saturday program includes a crossword puzzle, where the various guardians and functional points of the yard are reviewed. Those who complete the puzzle will receive a reward. There are craft stations in the museum's yard, where visitors can make hay maidens and fish swimming in the guardian's net. The children's finished works can be placed as part of a shared environmental art piece or taken home.
There is a sensory box in the yard, where you can feel and smell the contents of its mysterious compartments. The ground squirrels that live underground come to play in the yard, and the face painting station will conjure up forest animal-themed face paintings. Children can try throwing pine cones into the mouth of a hungry squirrel. You can sit at the campfire site and listen to the storyteller's stories: story times are held at 10:30, 11:30 and 12:30. You can take a picture of your fun day in the animal-themed Tintamareski!
There are activities available throughout the event, and you can participate flexibly according to your own schedule. The event will be held mainly in the museum's courtyard. In case of bad weather, some of the event locations may be moved indoors.
The event is free of charge. During the event, admission to the museum's exhibitions is free for children and adults accompanying children. The recently opened Peoples of the Northern Forests exhibition tells the story of the Finno-Ugric peoples' relationship with the forest, where man, nature and the world of beliefs meet.
The parents' association of the Hunting Museum's sponsor school will organize a grill café during the event, where you can buy food and snacks. The proceeds from the Glass Factory School's parents' association café will benefit the school's students.
