Veterinary services and animal protection

Environmental health care in Etelä Häme manages the municipal veterinary services in the municipality of Riihimäki and Forssa, as well as in the municipalities of Janakkala, Hausjärvi, Loppi, Tammela, Jokioinen, Humppila and Ypäjä. The veterinary clinics are located in Jokioin and Riihimäki.

Veterinary medicine is responsible

  • on the health and medical care of farm and pet animals,
  • on work to combat and prevent animal diseases,
  • duties according to the Animal Protection Act and
  • on the health control of animal husbandry, which is related to the control of foodstuffs obtained from animals.

In addition to the fee charged by the veterinarian, the municipal corporation collects a clinic fee from the animal's owner or keeper when the animal is seen at the municipal association's reception. The clinic fee covers the costs arising from the rent and equipment of the reception, the assistant and other similar costs. The fee is per patient, i.e. if the same owner has several animals with him at the same visit, the clinic fee according to the classification is charged for each patient treated.

    • Care of wild animals, guide dogs, police dogs and the like.
    • Follow-up injections and check-up visits, which are usually agreed upon at the previous visit, for example injection series, regular injection medications, follow-up visits for the effect of the treatment, removal of stitches.

    Clinic fee 6,20 euros (includes VAT 24%)

    • Visits for which the veterinarian does not charge a procedure fee, for example vaccination, a simple basic clinical examination, treatment of birds and small rodents and euthanasia.
    • Export certificate, passport, microchipping or puppy inspection of an individual puppy.
    • Repeat visits within a month for the same illness.

    Clinic fee 15,50 euros (includes VAT 24%)

    • Simple, short procedures (on average less than 30 minutes, possibly im-anesthesia), for example suturing a small wound, catheterization, castration of a cat or rabbit, removal of minor tartar, nail cutting under anesthesia, mild eye, ear, skin infections, blood and scraping sampling, pregnancy check, euthanasia of a cat, dog or rabbit, health check of a small (2–4) or fast-moving litter and possible chipping.
    • Small procedures carried out by the animal caretaker independently, for example nail trimming or shaving or examination without sedation.

    Clinic fee 31 euros (includes VAT 24%)

    • Longer and more demanding procedures (duration usually more than 30 minutes, usually IV or inhalation anesthesia, the procedure binds one nurse for the entire time), for example castration and sterilization of a dog, sterilization and C-section of a cat or rabbit, obstetric care, extensive calculus or surgical tooth extraction, etc. demanding dental treatments , skin and internal diseases that require demanding or time-consuming procedures (for example, IV hydration, large purulent wounds, shaving of hair or mane from a large area), a large (more than 4) or time-consuming litter health check and possible chipping.

    Clinic fee 43,40 euros (includes VAT 24%)

    • A very demanding surgical procedure (usually inhalation anaesthesia), for example, canine c-section and hysterectomy, gastric torsion and foreign body surgery, removal of a large or multiple tumors.
