Exercise counseling
Exercise counseling is aimed at people who are starting exercise and making lifestyle changes or who are struggling with weight management and who do not have an illness that requires acute treatment or rehabilitation. There is no upper age limit for exercise counseling, so do not hesitate to contact us.
In exercise counseling, you can talk to an exercise counselor about starting to exercise and think about different ways to increase activity in your everyday life. In addition to exercise, if necessary, we can also focus on weight management, nutrition and sleep issues. Exercise counseling is a low-threshold service and we use the UKK Institute's health exercise recommendations as a basis. The goal is to provide help and support for starting an active lifestyle. The consultation is free of charge for you, except for the body composition measurement.
Exercise counseling is always individual and tailored to the client's own needs, so the number or duration of appointments cannot be precisely defined in advance. Most of the time, the process takes 6–12 months and includes an initial and final meeting and contacts in between.
You can contact yourself if you are worried about your own well-being or immobility. If necessary, you can also be referred to exercise counseling through a healthcare professional.

The Riihimäki City Sports Center has been granted a grant from the Finland on the Move program for sports counseling for families with children for 2025. The new family sports counseling is aimed at families with limited mobility and children under school age.
Family exercise counseling focuses on families doing things together, especially trying out different forms of exercise. It is important for children under school age to try out different types of exercise, and exercise should be a natural part of everyday life. Together with the counselor, you will consider different solutions to increase exercise that motivates the whole family.
The advice also relies heavily on outdoor exercise and spending time in nature. Families are encouraged to get moving and are offered various ways to promote well-being.

Exercise counseling can be, for example, a discussion about the young person's everyday life, everyday habits and well-being or thinking about solutions to problems, getting to know different forms of exercise and hobby opportunities, exercise trials or gym visits. Exercise counseling is carried out either as individual, couple or small group guidance, and there are one to five meetings per case.
At the first meeting, the schedule and the goals of the participation will be reviewed. Participation in exercise counseling requires the consent of the guardian. However, the young person can come to the first meeting independently, after which the guardian is contacted to obtain consent. Exercise counseling is free of charge. Participation in counseling is voluntary, and you can stop it at any time. Any information collected during exercise counseling (e.g. surveys of lifestyle and movement) will be deleted after the end of exercise counseling, and will not be shared with outsiders or the school.
Physical education counseling is led by school PT Aaro Kilpinen.
Registration 6.-9. Physical education counseling for grade school students is done electronically form.
The school PT will contact you by text message/WhatsApp and arrange the first meeting during the school day or right after. -
Fitness tests can be done for you who are starting the exercise counseling process. Fitness tests include balance, muscle fitness and mobility tests.

The gym program and guidance is intended for those who are starting the exercise counseling process and have no previous gym training background or it has been several years since your last gym visit. If you do not want to train at the gym, we can make you a home exercise program, which we will go through together before starting the training. Exercise programs are made for those who are committed to the exercise counseling process.

Body composition measurement gives a comprehensive report on your body composition, including the amount of muscle and fat mass, fat around internal organs and fluid balance. We take the measurement with the InBody 770 device, which you stand on with bare feet. The measurement takes less than a minute. Body composition measurement costs €20/time. The measurement is not suitable for you with a pacemaker.
