My own words about writing

I have actively enjoyed and studied writing. I was at Häme Summer University's Writing School.

2010–2016 and the teachers were county artists, Päivi Haanpää and Taija Tuominen. I have liked poems since the 1970s. I have written a book's worth of fantasy stories. I have written anything, i.e. crime stories, short stories and poems. But "Tulioranssi" is the first own book. I am involved in numerous anthologies in the company of Samuli Paronen, as well as in the 50th anniversary book of the Uusimaa Writers, which was published a year ago. I'm always involved in some writing group. This corona year is no exception. Last winter, I was in the Päivi Kuusinen Writing joy group at Hyvinkää high school and I really liked it. This year I am part of Merzi Bergman's text-to-publication group at Riihimäki high school. I am also in the SKS answering service network. I am a visual artist and photographer. I don't necessarily need a group to write. There will be text anyway. I am a creative person in many ways.

Irma Airisto b. Isola belonged to Isola's well-known peasant and artist family. His farmer grandfather, Mauno Isola, sang the well-known Christmas carol "We go to the Christmas party". The eldest of the sisters, Tuulikki Isola-Holmila, worked as a mother tongue teacher at Riihimäki Lyceum. The youngest sister, Maija Isola, was a well-known Marimekko textile artist and painter.

Irma Airisto worked as an art teacher at Riihimäki Lyceum 1957–1984. He founded the lyceum's drama club and the Ermina Theater of the Civic Institute. Both also featured his own plays. Irma Airisto wrote poems, plays, plays, chronicles and was also a visual artist. His poems were published in the poetry anthology "Nuori runo" published in 1945. The poem Puputin's Corner has become a classic poem in Riihimäkä literature. Irma Airisto has mentioned her home village of Arolammi, Riihimäki high school and Kansalaisoopisto as her favorite destinations.

His texts have been characterized as symbolism between fairy tale and reality, where the past and the present are present. Irma Airisto's love for her home region can be seen in her production. He was particularly interested in the preservation of old buildings in his hometown. In the poem "To Linnunlaulu, petienle old talo" he set the scene for the grounds of the oldest building in Riihimäki, later demolished, Linnunlaulu. Irma Airisto says in an interview with the Riihimäkeläinen magazine in 1989, "My fields are plays and poems, because people interest me. Perhaps that's why it's easy for me to write plays, because as a visual arts teacher I see visually. This is how pictorial expression is connected to written expression."

Mauno Arjavirta was born in Sotkamo to the family of Hilma and tailor Hemmi Arffmani (the late Arjavirta). The family moved to Riihimäki in the early 1920s, where father Hemmi founded a tailor's shop next to Lasitehtaantie (now Arjavirrankatu). Hilma Arjavirta was from the village of Kormu and later she became known as Riihimäki's first female politician. Mauno Arjavirta got to know literature as a child, because the Riihimäki Civic College's library was temporarily located in their home.

Mauno Arjavirta's parents were involved in the labor movement and this strongly influenced Mauno's life course as well. He himself was involved in the activities of social democratic children and youth. The schooling continued at the rural school and later at VR's engineering school. At the age of 21, he was involved in the Winter War and the military service lasted a total of five years. The war interrupted Mauno Arjavirta's civilian career, and in the fall of 1946 he applied to the Workers' Academy in Kauniain, where Veikko Sinisalo, another student from Riihmäki, was a fellow student.

After the Workers' Academy, Arjavirta became a reporter for a daily newspaper in Turku and later continued to work as editor-in-chief of the Invalidiliitto newspaper until his retirement years.

Mauno Arjavirta started his writing career with the novel "Silta yli kuilun" published in 1955 under the name Jussi Sotkamo. Riihimäki was joined by the novel Tuulinen paiksa, published in 1960, which describes life in a domestic environment with gun, glass and beer factories. The main theme of the novel is a young man's search for life in post-war Finland. His work as a writer ended in the mid-1960s with the children's book "No immediate danger to life", but he continued to write as a journalist. The book is about a young boy who gets injured in a traffic accident.

Mauno Arjavirta has stated that he became a writer and journalist thanks to his mother. "My mother's sociability caught on with me too - I joined the inspiring work with the disabled." (Invalidityö-lehti 2008).

"Already as a child I got a spark for books and writing. At different stages of my life, the challenges have been song texts (for 25 different composers), textbooks and miniature musicals, mainly for school stages. In recent years, poems and aphorisms have dominated my writing. Rhythm is a question in them too, just like in the lyrics of a song. Words are like waves that reach the shore every day. I still want to be part of that flow. Recorded songs have a life of their own. There is feedback on Elina Vettenranta's songs on the Kastepisara album. The aCorde choir from Oulu has just recorded the Christmas music Hetki pieni jouluyön composed by Maria Portaankorva. Most records never find a lyricist to be heard. They are just a name in the annual list of works. My published songs can be found in the National Library's Viola database."

"In addition to my work, I have been writing for decades: novels, short stories, summer theater plays and newspaper columns and have published, for example, a couple of sketch books together with other writers. My work at Maaseudu Sivistysliito especially includes writer and story training. In connection with my work, I have been working on two guidebooks related to writing and literary therapy together with a couple of other writers. I have also edited several anthologies and histories.

My first work, the short story collection Sama se (Karisto Oy), was published in 1989, since then I have written novels and short stories about rural areas and more recently a couple of war novels. At the request of the publisher (Minerva Kustannus Oy), I will probably continue writing so-so novels. As a writer, I think that in addition to your own preferences, you also have to think about the reader, that is, you write what you want to read at any given time.

Regular paid work has ensured that I haven't had to hang on to a grant, but have been able to determine the rhythm of writing myself. Of course, paid work has also taken time and energy away from writing.

I have published a lot; twenty works and more than ten plays. I have noticed that in Hämee, someone who has moved from elsewhere is always a stranger. I have rarely received grants from here, maybe even once from the Häme Cultural Fund. Apparently, I lack networks, and among this "unspoken tribe" there is nothing and no one without local origin... maybe that's a good thing for the writer, rootlessness...

When my novel Eturintama's attack group appeared in 2011, Riihimäki City Library
I was met in the corridor by a local retired teacher who said: - I've read your latest book, I didn't like it! In my opinion, this sentence contains the essence of skepticism, which is strange to me as a northern Finn. My own words about myself and writing

I'm a bookworm. I started worming when I was six years old,

when the teacher of the upper class sent Pippi Longstocking to me with my big sister to read, and with that the desire to tell my own stories started to rear its head. When I started keeping diaries at the age of 12, they were mostly filled with poems, stories, fairy tales and the beginnings of children's books. Updating the diary has continued until these days, at some point it just moved to the computer. I have used these diaries in my childhood books Kivi tähtien takaa and Tyhjä Kirja, which describe my childhood, as well as in my book Saviruukku tulvii, which tells about the years of adulthood.

During the years of study and work, mostly poems were created, but after I got sick, writing became a therapeutic factor and it drew me back to life. After I retired from my job as a teacher, the words literally burst out and sometimes I wonder if I would ever have time to capture everything that is striving for the light of day inside of me.

I moved to Riihimäki on October 5.10.2012, XNUMX, quite by chance, when I had to look for an apartment in southern Finland. Fortunately, I met happy, friendly, helpful people everywhere and I started to enjoy myself. Thank you, Riihimäki

My own words about myself and writing

Writing has been a hobby since I was in boarding school. "Between the swamp and the factory" was born when, during a shift break, I thought I'd try to see if I could create a long story. At first, it was scary if my head was empty in the morning and no story would emerge. Don't think so, it was surprisingly effortless, so effortless it was even fun (it was fun). On the other hand, in terms of the story, it was easy to write when I had the memories of Räntsälä in front of my eyes. Even when it is said that parents start to remember it best from their childhood, rather than today or recent history. So writing was easy.

I can't think of myself as a writer. I have run the Helsinki City Marathon once. "Then you are a simple marathoner", as a good friend put it. I've written one book, so I guess I'm a simple writer.

For me, inventing stories while lying on my back is the best moment in writing. That's the fun. Writing and framing the matter and editing it to make it believable is the most laborious and often the most boring phase. Sometimes a story starts to live in your head for many years. You come back to it and think about how you would modify it or build it into something new and fresh. One short story was spinning in my head for probably five years. At first it was a three-page story, which over time was transformed into a one-page story. It became very reduced. I still like it and can't write or edit it anymore.

I'll put it here now as an extension.

"Yearning"
I walked across the yard to the wood shed. The footprints of the boot were left in the dirt. I looked at my tracks in the morning twilight. They were black, lonely, and forgotten on the ground. Behind the shed, on the bed, from the wood in the field, the crowing of a pheasant could be heard. I blew warm air into my palms and hit the old ax on the log with my heart's desire to let the evil flow out of me.

You took and left, - "that's it!" - blue dress swinging from under the coat. You said you don't owe me anything. But we didn't live to become each other's debtors. I didn't even have time to get into debt during this short life cycle, I tried to say. You turned your back as if closing the book covers. In the kitchen, a prisoner of the dining table, chairs, carpets, in the middle of the few things, I looked at your back, which buried tenderness and love.

On the stack on the back wall of the wooden shed was a long line box, patinated gray by time, and a bottle of liquor under it. The box was dimly visible in the doorway. God, it was a long way there, to that box. A car swerved into the yard and stopped suddenly. The sun rose from behind the forest. After a while it would melt all traces of the yard. Yours, mine, everyone's, like no one, and never would have walked in that courtyard.

The men got out of the car and started to come towards me when they noticed me standing at the door of the shed. The men wore dark coats. The driver had a narrow top hat, the other was bare-faced. The hems of both coats swayed to the rhythm of the walk like out-of-tune wings. After entering the shed, the men asked if I knew the person? I felt - They said they would take part, and that they would let me know when you could apply. As he was leaving, the parent asked if it could be an accident or on purpose? I turned away and stared at the fishing line box, an ax at hand, so vainly struck.

In the fall of 2014, I accidentally got lost in a writing group collecting the stories of the civic college, and to my own surprise, I found a poet within me. With the group leader's encouragement, I compiled my first book of poems in the spring of 2016. Another surprise was that the book found its readers and the feedback was positive.

Poems are created without forcing, an emotional state created by a news or TV program may act as an impetus, which is reflected in one's own life experience. However, I handle sometimes tough topics with a more affirming approach than blaming. Life is - all in all, quite a surprising time.

I have done my life's work in Afghanistan and a little in Ethiopia as well. I started in Afghanistan in the fall of 1971. I came to Finland then in 1974. From the beginning, I wrote so-called friend letters approximately once a month, where I told about my work and people, life in the world. I also wrote articles for some magazines, and I still receive writing requests for various publications. I've actually been writing a diary since I was 14 years old, also while working abroad. Friends encouraged me to compile my experiences into books and that's how it started. The first book As a Doctor in Afghanistan was published by Karas Sana (The People's Bible Society), and from there I also received valuable instructions on writing from Eeva Mesiää and others during the initial difficulties. - The books so far have actually all been born from different phases of my life around the world, every five years or so. I hope to be able to continue writing at some point.

Kajander, Kalle

Kalle Kajander, born in Riihimäki's parent farm Hausjärvi, became known as a realistic photographer of the Hämälä countryside, who drew his literary subjects from his surroundings. Parents: Karl Gustaf Kajander and Beata Kristiina b. The Backbergs wanted to educate Kalle and sent him to Helsinki's Finnish Primary School, where he graduated in 1882. However, the humanities studies at the University of Helsinki were left unfinished and Kalle Kajander returned to his homestead in Hikiä Kajantola to work on the farm at the age of 28. The homesteader's forests became familiar to the ardent forester, and while walking in the forests, he noticed how the owners wasted their forests with sadness. Juhani Aho, who lived in Hausjärvi at the time, was often a partner on these trips, who encouraged Kalle Kajander to work as a writer. Besides hiking, Kalle Kajander was interested in cycling and together with Juhani Aho, he went on bicycle trips, e.g. As far as Paris and Italy. Pirkko Kolbe's childhood family moved to Riihimäki in 1944, when his father was commissioned as a lieutenant in the Riihimäki garrison. I have always had a strong need to express myself through writing.

On September 11.9.1973, 20, a military coup led by General Augusto Pinochet overthrew Chile's left-wing government and plunged the country into violence. President Salvador Allende committed suicide and the citizens who supported Allende fell victim to the persecution of the extreme right. Auli Leskinen, a writer from Riihimäki who is currently the director of the Suomi-Madrid Institute and lived in Chile for XNUMX years, tells the story of the Rojas family in his book Petojen aika. The family's daughter Cristina and her boyfriend Michel, a young soldier who is ordered to execute the opponents of the hijacking, are the book's main characters. Reko Lundán's growing environment in Riihimäki was a garrison in his childhood and later a district of Juppala. The family moved to the garrison with the father's job. Reko Lundán went to Haapahuhta school and graduated from Pohjolanrinne high school in 1988. When he was young, he was not interested in theater but was interested in judo and orienteering. Literature also took an interest, and childhood adventure books later changed to classic authors such as Faulkner and Dostoyevsky. After entering high school, he applied to Teatterikorkeakoulu for the dramaturg track and graduated with a master's degree in theater arts in 1994.

Reko Lundán's breakthrough work was performed at the Suomen Kansallisteatteri Ettemme harhaan svertais in 1996. His successful plays, both written and directed, were Aina joku elsyy, performed at the Kom theater in 1998, and the sequel of the play Teilli ei ila nyami, performed in 2001.

The story of the Rinnee family in the plays continues in Lundán's debut novel Without Big Sorrows (2002). The book is a description through the story of one family about divorce, alcoholism and life in the small town of Riihimäki in the 1980s. Twins Aki and Liisa of the Rinne family grow from five years old to 20 years old. Akissa Lundán of the book's family mirrors her own story, but the novel is still not an autobiography. The locations of the book are Riihimäki garrison, Haapahuhta school, Hatlammi swamp and the city center with Puputi corner. The book humorously describes e.g. evening parties of the officers' club, to which Lundán had a first-hand vantage point due to his father's job as club master. Without great sorrows won Helsingin Sanomat's first book award and was also nominated for the Finlandia Award.

In all, Reko Lundán wrote and directed ten full-length plays. In addition to his own plays, Lundán also directed several classic plays. His last directing work was Dancing Priest, which premiered at Svenska Teatern in September 2006. The Finnish Playwrights' Association awarded Lundán the Lea award on the basis that Lundán brought social theater to the 1990s and 2000s. Above all, his Welfare State Trilogy (Unnecessary People, 2003, People in the Welfare State, 2003 and Uninvited Guests, 2006) depicted unemployment, economic depression and the banking crisis. Lundán has stated that all his subjects are in some way connected to society and originate from everyday reality. He has been compared to Minna Canth as an illustrator of social realism.

In addition to the plays, Reko Lundán wrote three novels, of which Rinnakkain, published in 2004, dealt with social problems such as unemployment and intolerance. Reko Lundán's last work, which was overshadowed by illness, was Viikkoja, mäumäia (2006), written together with his wife Tina Lundán. Reko Lundán writes in the last pages of the book:

Probably the most banal reason is that a professional writer writes just to be funny. Another reason is that I believe in the authority and importance of this text. I don't have any desire to prove myself across the border, but I believe in literature, I believe in people's desire to identify with each other and live."

Making the books began secretly: a lot of other writing gave birth to material that didn't really lend itself to polemical material in columns or in the frames of song lyrics. I started working on short stories about them and four years later I was a debut author.

There are only two works behind me, so as a writer I'm only at a beginner's level. My intention is to publish works of fiction in the future as well, but in recent years those works have not made it to the top. Music and its related work have taken up most of my time, and that's fine.

During the Winter War, the Mere family lived in the father's family house in Uittamo, Hausjärvi, and in the spring of 1941, they moved to the Riihimäki barracks area after Väinö Meren received command of the Riihimäki garrison. Meri remembers her childhood spent in the Kararmi area, e.g. in the poem Me.

Veijo Meri attended elementary school at Riihimäki Yhteislyse, where she left many memories of strict and encouraging teachers. In particular, the advice of the church history teacher Kalevi Kajava, that the subject writer must remove everything unnecessary after completing the subject, was meaningful to the future writer. Veijo Meri started high school in Riihimäki, but when the family moved to Hämeenlinna in the summer of 1946, he continued his high school at Hämeenlinna Lyceum.

In the fall of 1949, Veijo Meri left to study history at the University of Helsinki. Meri enjoyed writing at a young age and participated in several writing competitions. The first short story collection Ettei maa viheriöisi was published in 1954. Veijo Meri switched from poetry to prose in the mid-1950s. Manillaköysi, the sea breakthrough that became a classic, was published in 1957.

According to Hannes Sihvo, four themes can be distinguished from the production of Veijo Mere, which permeate his production. They intertwine history, sociality, language and understanding of literature. The Hausjärvi - Riihimäki region appears as a place of events and one's own family history is often a frame of reference in Mere's production. The short story Kalkki, set in the years of great hunger, is one of these family stories, and in the novel Suku from 1968, Meri describes her immediate family through the eyes of a little boy, Reino.

"It was twenty kilometers to the store. Four or five kilometers from there, the road went under the track and turned to follow it. Two hills prevented the road from being seen as one straight road all the way there. From the first hill, you could see the traffic light at the foot of the second hill flickering, even now in the middle of the day. Veijo Meri often uses documentary materials in his novels, such as in the description of the civil war in the Riihimäki - Hausjärvi region in the work Vuoden 1918 eventat. Riihimäki during the Winter War is also associated with the comedy Sotamies Jokinen's wedding holiday from 1965. Veijo Mere's father was a good storyteller and his stories about his own family often made their way into Veijo Mere's books. Meri also drew material for her texts from Hausjäve's village stories. The first poem written by Veijo Mere at the age of 19 is said to have been inspired by a drowning accident at Hausjärvi's Kollamami. The drowned worker from Riihimäkä had been yelled at all evening without success. It wasn't until the next morning that the body was found, when someone noticed a man lying at the bottom of the pond from the top of the ridge.

Veijo Meri has divided her writing career into two periods. In the first phase, he wrote novels and plays. In the second, he published poetry books and wrote works related to language and history. Veijo Meri is one of Finland's most prolific and respected writers, whose work has been translated into more than 20 languages. He received the title of academician in 1998.

The surroundings of the people in Veijo Mere's books are Hausjärvi, Riihimäki, Helsinki and Hämeenlinna when there is a clearly recognizable place in them. He himself has lived in all of these.

In 1970, I graduated from the Institute of Art and Design as a visual art teacher. At the end of my studies, I was a substitute for a few months at Riihimäki Lyseo as Irma Airisto's work partner. In 1975, a generational change became relevant in Holmila, Kuru, and the teacher's job remained. My husband and I started managing a dairy farm. Now we are retired.

I was a keen draftsman and painter since I was a child. When I took care of the huusholli and cattle on the farm, the notebook and pen sometimes went in the pocket of my overalls. Now I could turn the pictures of my life into, say, picture books. My pictures are in folders on my computer. Photo treasures can also be found in old photographs.

I am a child of the baby boomers born after the war. The time we lived in has already passed. It would be nice if I could tell my grandchildren and other younger people about it.

Raimo Nieminen tells a fictional story about a man called Keisari, who cycled around Riihimäki and made observations of what he saw at the turn of the 1950s and 1960s. The story features familiar characters from Riihimäki's street scene, such as Tipu-Liisa, the brothers Pauli and Antero, and professional wrestler Huhtanen. The emperor cycled in different neighborhoods from Juppala to Herajoki. The small town's period image and nostalgic atmosphere are nicely captured in the booklet.

The drive for all kinds of creative work has always been strong. Puberty years (14-35) were largely spent in music, which, however, never turned into a full-time job. So I'm one of those musicians who can honestly say: "I'm not doing this for the money." So in my head I've always been a rock star and a writer, but my alter ego has been working politely in more mundane jobs, like factories and factories.

Scriptwriting for visual media is a particularly challenging and thus fascinating endeavor. Because I'm not funny, I specialize in comedy in this field. Samuli Paronen was born in Virolahti as the only child of his parents. Samuli Paronen's father died in the Tammisaari prison camp when Samuli was only one year old and her mother also died when Samuli was 14 years old. After attending public school, he worked in forestry, at sea, on buildings, as a mine driller and in a factory. Writing started when Paronen had to go on sick leave from working three shifts at a glass factory and had the opportunity to write continuously. In three weeks, about five hundred handwritten strips were created, which formed the first novel Summer in Aataminkylä 1964. The book tells about a fatherless boy's summer wanderings and the wonder of life. In the 1960s, Paronen moved from the Salointe village of Janakkala to Riihimäki, where his tall, dark figure was seen in street scenes at the train station, in parks and in the library.

The actual breakthrough came with the war novel Kuolismaantie 1967, which tells about the final stages of the war, men's attitudes and moods. Along with writing, Paronen continued to work in the Riihimäki and Lahti glass factories. Riihimäki is not mentioned by name in Paronen's production, but A Room in a Wooden House 1971 is set in a small town plagued by a housing shortage. Paronen collected material from the speeches of the people of Riihämäkel, both at the workplace and while walking around the city. It is said that he even paid a small fee for the stories of people walking on the edge of life. Paronen's collection of aphorisms The world is a word, published in 1975, is still considered the pinnacle of Finnish fiction. Paronen's background as a worker has shaped his aphorisms into sharp, biting and clear ones.

Samuli Paronen lived a quiet and withdrawn life in Riihimäki. From the city of Riihimäki to Paron, there was only one recognition, an art grant of one thousand marks, with the help of Riihimäki Sanomat. Paronen took care of young writers in Riihimäki and wanted to gather young writers around him. In Riihimäki, Paronen's life's work was taken into account by naming the exhibition hall of the library building completed in 1986 the Samuli Paronen hall.

Samuli Paronen also painted pictures to get extra earnings. Boards were sold at markets especially by his wife Aino Meuronen. The writer Hannu Mäkelä has stated that he has seen three of Paronen's paintings. In his opinion, the best and most impressive is the one in the possession of Samuli Paronen's club. This painting is currently on display in Samuli Paronen's hall. In addition, there is an ex-libris of Samuli Paronen made by Juha Meuronen, which is also owned by the Samuli Paronen Society.

At the national level, Samuli Paronen was awarded the State Literature Prize twice, and numerous editions of his collection of thoughts, Maailma on sana, have been taken.

Samuli Paronen wrote his text from his own circle of life, about the world of small and poor people. When writing, he used his own experiences, but at the same time brought out general material about people's lives and anxiety. Paronen has stated that libraries and park benches used for reading books have always been places he likes. He ends his collection of aphorisms with a thought:

Tuovi Perttunen's work as a writer began after he returned to his home in Patastenmäki in the 1970s after years of study and work. He published five books of his own poems and participated in several anthologies of Samuli Paronen's society. His writing hobby started at a young age and in the 1950s he was among the debutantes of the year in the literary magazine Parnasso. However, the poems were not published at that time and that caused a long break in the writing hobby. He self-published his first book of poetry Matkalainen – Aikalainen in 1976. The last book of poetry was Ajasta ja valost, published by Samuli Paronen's society in 2002.

The subjects of the poems are often nature, the trees and birds of one's own yard, but they also contain reflections on human life and the world around us. As a writer, he said he was self-taught. Tuovi Perttunen also dabbled in painting and completed the evening course at the University of Applied Sciences at a young age.

Writing has always been an important part of my work and life, along with music and drawing. The part of writing was emphasized and poems came into my expression during the years of grief, after losing my little sister in 2000.

My first work, "Kammiovärinää", contains the reflections of an exhausted contemplative hiding in his chamber about the multiplicity of life. I wrote my second work, "Today my sadness is beautiful", in memory of my little sister.

I have illustrated the books with my own drawings and paintings.

"I wanted to know how to write detective stories, because I prefer to read detective stories, and I took a detective writing course a few years ago. I got hooked on writing right away, and one topic after another started spinning in my mind.

I first wrote down one suspense story and sent it to the short story competition of the Häme Art Commission. I ended up in the top twelve with my short story Kyllönen, and that's how I got into the anthology called Alue 2011. Enthusiastic about this, I wrote my next short story, Keppone, and it also did excellently at Kouvola detective days 2012, ending up in the anthology called Valta houkuttaa ja koukuttaa.

In Kyllönen, cold-hearted Jone and his pit bull Kyllönen had an adventure. The main star of my second short story was a dog, the dachshund Kepponen. The owner of the prank, Jenny Cotton, was a private detective.

Vigorous, middle-aged Jenny began to live her own life and I absolutely had to write more about her. In the summer of 2012, while on holiday from gardening, I wrote six short stories and thus the book Private Detective Jenny Cotton and Kepponen was born. The book follows Jenny and Kepponen's adventures, gardening and living at home for a year.

Although I like detective stories, I don't like violence at all. Therefore, my own writings are neither brutal nor chilling. They have a lot of humor and just the right amount of tension. I think my detective stories are suitable for both adults and young people. The purpose of my writings is to bring joy and a good mood."

My own words about writing

I am a writer from Tornionjokilaakso on my mother's side, and my life is divided into three places. I mainly live in Riihimäki, but from May to September I live in Kemi. I camp in Kittilä all year round, every other month and I stay for a week at a time.

My first book collection of short stories, Not so bad (2015), is about evil that was "so minor that it didn't even count as evil". The book also won the series of short stories and short stories in the 2016 Möllarimaster competition and came second in the overall competition.

My second book, Don't Leave Me (2018), is about railway builders and their families in the 50s and 60s. The novel is fictional, but partly based on my own experiences, because the men in my mother's family were also railway builders. The book contains real events and "real" life, e.g. From the Kauliranta-Kolari railway section in the 50s and 60s. I myself started at the age of 15 as a dispatcher and call center operator at the head office of the Kauliranta-Kolari railway site in Pello.

My third book Marian luut (2019) is a fictional generational story from 1864-2013. I have been doing background research and writing a book for almost six years. The events of the book take place in Tornionjokilaakso and focus on the fictional village of Peskijärvi, but the book also takes place in Helsinki. The Marias in my book about the women are dreamers who are forced to take action in the end, but Anna and Martta are from another world. For them, doing it means loving and straightening the carpet fringes is caring, even if they don't notice it themselves.

Suomirock legend Tuomari Nurmio lived in Riihimäki's Hyttikortteli city block between 1992 and 2002 for ten "good years", as he himself stated in an interview with Riihimäki Sanomi in September 2002. During his time in Riihimäki, in 1994, he published a poetry book, Karvainen sielu. Judge Nurmio's legendary lyrics to the song Valoa yö (1979) originally appeared in the form of a poem in the magazine of Hämäläinen Osakunta during his student years in the 1970s. The university years gave rise to "interest in many things" in him, one of which was a book of poems. He says in an interview with Helsingin Sanomat about his poetry book:

"It was a blast to do and showed that this can also be done. Compared to poems, music always has its own limitations, because the texts always have to be cut to a certain measure."

Kavarienen síulu's poems are full of different characters and surreal fleeting images, but humor also has its place. Often, the world of the poems is dark and inconsolable, but there are also familiar musical tones from his songs, such as the aladoobia in the verses of the poem Kuutio.

Timo Utterström was born as the youngest son of a family of five in Riihimäki in 1982. His parents divorced when he was six years old, after which the family moved often. Utterström attended Lasitehta's elementary school for two years, transferred to Herajoki school and moved to the island of Hailuoto with his mother at the age of 12.

The active life continued right after middle school, when Utterström enrolled as a high school student in the nearby town of Ou-lu, completed his military service as a guerrilla officer in Sodankylä, and graduated with a master's degree in art from the University of Lapland. After his studies, he lived in Rovaniemi for another year and made a living as a graphic designer in an advertising agency, until he founded his own media production company and moved back to Oulu in 2010.

At the same time, the dream of becoming a writer began to sprout. Utterström had already written a lot in elementary school – he wrote his first script at the age of 14 in English and sent his works to Hollywood studios from the Hailuoto post office – but now he started working on his first novels. At first, the works ended up in a desk drawer or for friends to read, until the first work Nyt was published in 2012.

Utterström immediately started working on his second work, but soon realized that his next stories would be movies, not works of fiction. Utterström lived in Paris and Amsterdam in 2016–2017, where he studied acting and screenwriting. In 2017, he returned to Finland and Helsinki, where he studied TV drama production.

Utterström hones his expressive skills as an actor, screenwriter, writer and cinematographer.

Aaro Vakkuri lived his childhood and part of his school years in Riihimäki in the area of ​​the glass factory. In 1955, Vakkuri's family moved to Hyvinkää, but Aaro Vakkuri continued his schooling in Riihimäki, graduating from Riihimäki Lyceum in 1962. The younger brother Juha Vakkuri also became a writer. Aaro Vakkuri graduated from the Technical University with a master's degree in construction in 1968. In 1977, Aaro Vakkuri was invited to Tehran as the CEO of the Finnish construction export company Finn Iran Contractor's Group. The task of the construction contract was to build 3 apartments for the bodyguard of the Shah of Persia. Later, he worked in construction export projects in Egypt, and after returning to Finland in the 500s, he worked as an export consultant in the construction industry. The years spent abroad were reflected in the topics of Aaro Vakkur's books, e.g. Greek Gift 1980 and Pelilauta 1975.

Aaro Vakkur's first book, A Man Who Goes in 12 Hours (1973) received second prize in the Tamme entertainment novel competition and achieved great sales success. The book Elämäni Freda 1990 takes place in Riihimäki in the late 1940s and 1950s. Aaro Vakkuri visited Riihimäki library in 1990 and told about the background of his book. The phrase "Kale was the most accurate with a slingshot" was the first thing in my mind, and the topic of the book started to take shape from a tip from an acquaintance. The book is told in the first person, the story of a well-mannered boy growing up in a factory store during the post-war shortage period. The boy in the book falls in love with Freda, the most beautiful girl in the neighborhood, already in Lasitehta elementary school. The boy and Freda move to the boys' and girls' high school, which at the time operated in the same building in Riihimäki. The book contains a lot of historical descriptions related to Riihimäki and familiar places such as Pätkätalo, the Lyceum, Vesilinnanmäki and the slopes of Allinna.

"The girls' prom was held in the same building, but in different classes. During recess, we were at the same time and in the same yard, and every boy had to start looking for a girl to start liking. It was difficult because the girls always stood on the other side of the yard. They leaned against the sun wall of the school, and we boys walked along the yard and looked at the girls with aloof eyes in such a way that they didn't notice who we were looking at. In the 1990s, Aaro Vakkuri wrote non-fiction related to the management of work communities. In his last years, he lived in Provence, France, and wrote the work Village in the Sky of Provence in 1997 about his stay there.

Anja Vammelvuo's father was the merchant Aleksei Jegorovits Weselow, later Vammelvuo was one of the most famous people from Riihmäki. The Vammelvuo family lived in several places in Riihimäki, e.g. Keskuskatu, Maantie and Suvannontie. Anja Vammelvuo went to public school at the Pohjoise school and continued her schooling at the Riihimäki joint high school, matriculating in 1941. After matriculation, she worked as a summer journalist and publishing clerk in Otava.

Anja Vammeluvo has been writing since she was 12 years old and participated in writing competitions at a young age. His first short story was published at the age of 16 through Nuoren Voima Liito. There were hardly any books in Anja Vammelvuo's home, so the opening of the Riihimäki municipal library in 1936 was particularly important for the future writer. The young writer Anja Vammelvuo and the schoolboy Veijo Meri, who is just dreaming of a career as a writer and who admires her, met in the Riihimäki municipal library.

The first poetry collection Auringo tytär in 1943 received good reviews. In the review, the collection was described as a depiction of the life of a sensual woman. The author was only 22 years old at the time, but perhaps the consequences of a traffic accident experienced at a young age brought maturity to the text. The first novel Muut ovat nouria (1945) was an autobiographical description of the lives of young people during the war years. The short story collection Paratiisilintu also includes Hanski Hortensia, a novel set in Riihimäki Suvannontie. In her short stories, Anja Vammelvuo often deals with the entire arc of a woman's life.

During the Winter War, the town of Riihimäki was heavily bombed. The bombing on Christmas Day 1939 damaged several buildings in the center of the town, e.g. the Suojeluskuntatalo, where Anja Vammelvuo's brother worked as a volunteer.

Anja Vammelvuo published a total of 17 works: two novels, collections of short stories and poems, and a play. He is best known as an award-winning lyricist. The poet's production shows her biography such as her first love, meeting her husband Jarno Pennanen, the birth of her son Jotaarka and her conversion to leftism. The years spent in the Soviet Union from 1957 to 1960 are reflected both in terms of topics and on an ideological level in her production, such as the poetry collections Kuuma, kilma 1960 and Integer vitae 1964. Anja Vammelvuota has been characterized as both an interpreter of leftism and a critic.

Anja Vammelvuo's last work was the play Tulee aika toinkin (1983), which deals with the life of Jarno Pennanen's father, the "actor-bandit chief" Aarne Orjatsalo. Anja Vammelvuo has been considered one of the most significant representatives of post-war modernism.

My own words about writing

I am a 17-year-old budding writer who has been surrounded by books since childhood. I started working on my first novel at the age of 16, after previously writing smaller fragments. The spark for both reading and writing has already been obtained from the library's fairy tale lessons.

For me, writing is a way to express my feelings and thoughts on paper. I am free to create and express myself as I want.
