Digital guidance service promise

Riihimäki Library offers various levels of digital guidance, and we have made a service promise for these services. We will guide you in the basic use of library equipment and software, in using our online services and in information retrieval without making an appointment. In addition, you can book time with us for digital coaching, information retrieval coaching or basic digitization guidance.

Basic guide to library equipment

The main focus of our digital guidance is on basic guidance. Our goal is for you to learn to use the library's digital devices and services independently. In all our digital guidance, we take into account legality, data security and privacy, and the terms of use of the services being guided. We are bound by confidentiality in both digital guidance and other customer service situations.

In the digital guidance of Riihimäki Library, we follow the recommendations of the Public Library Council on digital skills and providing digital support in libraries (YKN 2019) and the ethical guidelines for digital support prepared by the Digital and Population Information Agency (DVV 2023).

Please remember the following things in our digital guide:

  • In a guidance situation, you are responsible for your personal and confidential information.
  • You log in and identify yourself to services that require strong authentication.
  • We will advise you to the best of our ability, but we cannot promise to help in every problem situation. If we cannot help, we will try to refer you to the right expert.
  • In banking and official services, we only guide you in basic matters related to using the services, such as finding and printing the service. You can ask the providers of these services for help with banking and official matters, for example, filling out applications.
  • We can only provide you with more detailed guidance on matters that do not involve financial risks. For example, making sales announcements or travel reservations may involve such risks.

Digital coaching and information retrieval coaching

You can book time with the library's digital coach to guide you through the basic use of your digital device. Please note that the digital coach can only guide you in the basic use of working devices and programs. Repairing, maintaining or installing devices is not included in digital coaching.

A digital coach can also help and guide you in using the library's equipment, programs, and online services if the guidance requires more time. In this case, too, the guidance time must be booked in advance.

You can also reserve time for information retrieval coaching. An information retrieval coach will help you develop your skills in information retrieval, evaluating the information you find, and selecting information sources based on your own wishes. In practice, coaching can be related to information retrieval in Ratamo libraries, online information retrieval, or information retrieval utilizing artificial intelligence.

Both digital coaching and information retrieval coaching are personal and free of charge. Digital coaching is intended for all ages and information retrieval coaching for adults. Personal guidance time is one hour.

When booking digital or information retrieval coaching, please provide your contact information and your desired topic of guidance. You can also ask the information retrieval coach for advice by email. Digital or information retrieval coaching is not available during the summer from 1.6 June to 31.8 August. You can book an appointment with a digital or information retrieval coach from the library's customer service. Contact information can be found at the end of the page.

Digitization guidance at Digipaja

If you have booked the Digipaja for your use, you can book a short tutorial for your first digitizing session if necessary. After the tutorial, we hope that you will be able to use the digitizing equipment independently.

At Digipaja you can digitize your own VHS tapes, C-tapes, LPs, photos, slides and negatives. You can find digitizing instructions in the Digipaja's instructions folder.

There is no digitization guidance during the summer from June 1.6 to August 31.8. You can find more information about digitization and other digitization services on our website. Citizen advice

Also remember the Citizens Advice Bureau. Citizens Advice Bureau is a national service in Finland that helps you with your official business. It helps you find the right authority or the authority's electronic service to handle your affairs.
