Finna is an easy-to-use online service that provides access to materials and services from other archives, libraries and museums. Riihimäki library accepts donations of good condition, fairly new children's and adult books, audio CDs and sheet music. The library does not accept encyclopedias, very old encyclopedias or books in poor condition. You can bring books to our service counters during library opening hours. Due to the lack of resources, the library does not have the possibility to get books from home. With donated books, we supplement our collection and replace materials that are in poor condition.
Due to copyright reasons, we cannot accept DVD or Blu-ray recordings, CD-ROMs or DVD-ROMs for library use as donations.
Not all donated books end up in the library's collections, but some can continue their circulation in the library's book exchange cart, where you can also leave individual books.
You can get a library card from the lending office by filling out a registration form and presenting an ID card. For those under 15 years of age, written consent from a guardian is required. The library card must be presented when borrowing material. Please notify the library immediately of any change of address or name, or if the card is lost. The first card is free of charge, and renewing the card costs 15 euros for those over 2 years of age. You can use the same library card in all Ratamo libraries (Hausjärvi, Hyvinkää, Loppi, Nurmijärvi, Riihimäki). You can also use the electronic library card available in the online library as a library card.

The library building was completed in 1986 under the design of Arkitehtuuritoimisto Osmo Lappo (architects Osmo Lappo, Juhani Westerholm and Iina Paasikivi-Poutanen, interior architect Leena Aaltonen). The building has two floors, gross area 3,384 m2.

Riihimäki City Library has approximately 198,000 items of library material. Ratamo libraries have a total of approximately 800,000 items of various materials available to customers. Customers have access to a photocopier that allows them to make black and white or color copies in A4 and A3 sizes. To use the machine, you need a key card, which you can get from customer service. There is a charge for making copies. See the library's Fees page for copy prices.
The library's local history collection includes non-fiction and fiction written by people from Riihimäki. The collection also includes fiction set in Riihimäki. The local history collection materials are not available for loan, but you can freely consult them in the library. The materials can be found in the Cabinet on the ground floor of the library. When you borrow materials, you must present a library card or photo ID (driver's license, passport or police-issued identity card). You can get a library card from the lending office by filling out the registration form and presenting an identity document. Children under 15 years of age need the written consent of their guardian. You can find the urgent loan shelf on the ground floor of the library. The loan period for urgent loans is seven days, they cannot be reserved or renewed. Overdue fees for urgent loans are determined in the same way as for reserved materials.
To renew and reserve volumes and change your personal information via the online library, you will need a four-digit PIN code in addition to your library card. The same PIN code is also used for automatic lending machines and other online services of the library that require logging in, as well as for logging in to the self-service library.
If you don't have a pin code yet or have forgotten it, you can get a new one by clicking Ratamo online library link next to the login screen. You can also get your PIN in person at any Ratamo library (Hausjärvi, Hyvinkää, Loppi, Nurmijärvi, Riihimäki).
The library sells removed material from time to time in the library's lower lobby, for example in connection with separate library events. When the material is on sale, it will be announced separately. The price of removed material starts at 0,10 euros.
Library services for early childhood education.
Ratamo libraries transfer regional loans worth 2 euros from their collections from one Ratamo library to another and from Kirkes libraries to Ratamo libraries.
The libraries of Hausjärvi, Hyvinkää, Lope, Nurmijärvi and Riihimäki form the Ratamo libraries group. The same library card is valid in all libraries and you can, among other things, borrow and return materials anywhere in these libraries. Through the Ratamo online library, you can browse and reserve material from any library in Kimpa, renew your loans and change your information.
Ratamo libraries have a common warehouse, where old and rarely borrowed CDs, which have not been permanently deleted, have been selectively moved. In the availability information of the online library, the discs in the Ratamo warehouse are displayed at the Nurmijärvi main library under the location Ratamo warehouse.
You can order a stock of discs for free at all Ratamo library locations. If you want to order a disc, make a reservation for it in the online library or request an order from your library's customer service. When you pick up the disc, ask the customer service representative to remove the 2-euro Ratamo fee automatically given by the system from your data.
Samuli Paronen Hall is an exhibition and multi-purpose space for art and hobby exhibitions and, to a limited extent, other events. The space, located on the first floor of the library, has an area of 112 m² and can accommodate a maximum of 80 people at a time. The hall opens at 9 am on library opening days. A grand piano is also available.

The children's department has a Story Room, which is free for customers to use when it is not reserved for story lessons or teaching library use. You can hang out, draw and play in the fairytale room.
Storytelling lessons for groups
In the library you can use the scanner free of charge. You can use the scanner upstairs in the library to scan simple documents. For larger jobs and, for example, scanning photos and slides, you should make an appointment at the library In the digital workshop, where you can find a scanner that is better suited for this.
You can use the computers intended for customer use without making an appointment or logging in personally. You can use the internet and the most common Windows programs, such as Word and Excel, on the computers. The maximum time on the computer is two hours per customer.
You can use your own laptops and mobile devices freely. The library has a wireless network, for which you can get a password from the library's service points.
Librarians help with the use of the library's collection and information retrieval. The information service handles material reservations and remote service requests from other libraries.

You can renew your loans if there are no reservations. You can do the renewal yourself in the online library or by calling the library. See contact information at the bottom of the page. You can also renew loans at the lending desk.
You will need a library card and PIN to renew your loans in the online library. You cannot renew your loans if you have exceeded the payment limit of 20 euros, the material you borrowed has been invoiced, or it is an express loan.
You can renew your loan up to five times, after which it must be brought to the library for viewing.
The library's storage room is located on the first floor of the library. The storage room contains over 60 books, most magazine volumes, 000 sheet music and over a thousand LPs. Duplicate volumes, old or poor-quality material that we want to keep in the collection is transferred to the storage room.
The warehouse is open to customers when the library is open. You can collect the material from the warehouse yourself or ask the staff for help. You can also reserve material in the online library.
Reserving material from your own municipality's libraries is free of charge. A reservation fee of 2 euros is charged for Ratamo loans. Ratamo loan refers to loans ordered from Ratamo and Kirkes.
You can reserve materials at the information service or the online library. To reserve through the online library, you need a library card and PIN code. If you do not have a library card or PIN code, please contact the library. See contact information at the bottom of the page.
You pick up the reserved material from the reservation pick-up shelf on the ground floor of the library, where you can find your reservations with the pick-up number on the arrival notice. The material is arranged on the collection shelf in a continuous manner based on the collection numbers. Borrow reservations either at the machine or from customer service. You can receive a reservation arrival notification by text message, email or letter.
