Local activities

The local activities of the City of Riihimäki are open to everyone and free of charge. No advance registration is required and you can come and join whenever it suits you.

Meeting place activities are organized in Riksula and at the Peltsi 2.0 community space in Peltosaari, and in the summer as Senior Park Activities in various parts of the city.

When you need company, refreshment for the mind and body, or activity in your everyday life, the meeting place activity is for you and your loved ones. Welcome!

  • Summer 2026 Senior Parks will meet June 1st – July 31st

    On Mondays 1–2:30 p.m. Anton's house courtyard, Öllerinkatu 3.

    On Tuesdays 10–11:30 a.m. Lunch Park, at the City Library.
    On Tuesdays 1–2:30 p.m. Vehmas Park, Vehmaksentie 5.

    On Wednesdays 10–11:30 a.m. Independence Park, Puistikko 9.
    On Wednesdays 1–2:30 p.m. Gus-Hrustalnijn Park Saturnuksenkatu 2, Peltosaari.

    On Thursdays 10–11:30 a.m. Piikinmäki Park, Kopparinaukio Square.

    The city supports the activity of the elderly

    The Senior Parks program offers guided, relaxed and refreshing time together with changing themes in local parks around the city. Participation in park activities is free of charge and does not require advance registration. Coffee and buns are available. Join us whenever it suits you. Both new and familiar faces from previous years are warmly welcome. Park activities are subject to weather conditions. The goal of Senior Parks is to support the activity of the elderly, reduce loneliness and strengthen community. It is a wonderful place to be together!

    Park sponsors to support you when you leave

    Our goal is to make Senior Park Walking possible for those who find it challenging to leave home. Volunteer park chaperones offer one-off or more regular escort assistance. If you feel you need a park chaperone or would like to act as one yourself, please feel free to contact us. Together, let's make Senior Park Walking possible for everyone who wants to!

  • The meeting place in Riksula, Anton's house, offers conversation, meaningful activities, free, open clubs, lectures and events, as well as help and advice for different stages of life according to a monthly program, in cooperation with local organizations and associations.

    Riksula is the accessible meeting place for open welfare services in the city of Riihimäki, whose mission is to increase inclusion, strengthen community spirit, and provide preventive measures to promote well-being and health.

    Peltsi 2.0 meeting coffees until May 7th on Thursdays from 9 am to 12 pm, Jupiterinkatu 5. Peltosaari meeting place operations will resume on August 13th, 2026.

  • As a partner of the City of Riihimäki, the Kotokartanosääti Foundation organizes mainly free, diverse activities that support healthy aging.

    In open local activities, groups, excursions and volunteering you can enjoy togetherness, experiences and get peer support. Lectures, courses and guidance and counselling activities provide information and support for your own well-being and a good and smooth everyday life.

    At the senior gym and in various exercise groups, you will strengthen and maintain good functional capacity and meet other seniors. An expense allowance is charged for the use of the senior gym and excursions. Kaikukortti members participate for free.

  • Do you want to go on a refreshing car trip to a museum or a café? Do you know an elderly person who would enjoy a fun ride through their old neighborhood or a neighboring town?

    Volunteer drivers offer free, refreshing car trips to the elderly. The purpose of the trips is to bring variety and joy to everyday life and to alleviate the experience of loneliness. The trip usually lasts 1-3 hours, and its content is planned taking into account the wishes of the elderly person. Car trips also bring joy to the volunteer.
