A man tattooed his love on his skin
Riksuu in love is a story series in which people from Riihimäki share their thoughts about their hometown. The text was originally published in issue 1/2020 of the Koti&Kaupunki residents' magazine. The text has been updated on March 25.3.2022, XNUMX.
The captain of the Riihimäki Cocks representative team, left winger Teemu Tamminen is almost completely tattooed. Only there are no pictures on the face, and no stamps on the buttocks - the handball player saved for a long time, even on the lower back.
There was a reason for saving money: Riihimäki. Tamminen wanted his beloved hometown on his lower back, but it took some time before he came up with the idea of what is the right way to tattoo a small hometown.
In the end, Tamminen's tattooist got the idea and the lower back tattoos were completed in the summer of 2019. The Riihimäki sports hall, the glassblower statue, the church hill, the train station and the water tower are now adorning the skin.
- They were the places of my youth and they are still my places. I haven't gotten anywhere from Riihimäki, and I won't go anywhere from here. This is my hometown, my home, says Tamminen.
Riihimäki, handball and Cocks are dear things to Teemu Tammi. Riihimäki, handball and Cocks are dear things to Teemu Tammi.
The embodiment of the Cocks spirit
Tamminen is and is known in Riihimäki. He is a hard level handball player. The embodiment of the spirit of Riihimäki Cocks. A role model for junior players. Local public figure.
Tamminen admits that the team's good spirit and the players' mutual trust are important things. They guarantee success. He also strives to be a role model, and Cocks' junior players are important to Tammin.
– A local celebrity? No. These scumbags only come to the bar to chat, laughs Tamminen.
Tamminen has been playing sports since he was a little boy. He started playing handball at the age of 11. Then something happened that put the boy's sports interests on hold. Tamminen's father died when he was 13 years old.
The loss was huge for an adolescent boy. Sports remained - especially when the father had been the one who drove the son to training and took care of the hobbies anyway.
- Then the coach from that time came to pick him up, came to pick him up off the street. It's like Riihimäki Cocks and my mother saved me. That's when I woke up immediately and realized that handball is my thing. I would hardly be here without Cocks and Mom. Afterwards, I've often thought that my mother also had to endure it.
Handball every day
Nowadays, handball is part of Tamminen's every day. If we don't train, we play. Tamminen's player contract is four years, so at least he is not ending his playing career yet.
- I'm going to break the record and get to the top of the goal exchange. Right now I'm number two. 303 goals are needed for first place and I won't achieve that in two seasons.
When the new Cocks Aareena was completed in Riihimäki, the players got a better framework for playing than ever before. There is a representative team's own dressing room where others have no business, a sauna and many other good things.
- But it was difficult to leave the sports house. Our new hall does not yet have the home magic that the sports hall had, but I believe it will come.
As the king of the paint market
Tamminen achieved his goal of being the king of the goal exchange in the handball championship series and the championship league on March 24, 2022. The goal was fulfilled in the Dicken–Cocks match, during which Tamminen scored six goals and at the same time passed Jan Rönnberg, who led the goal exchange.
- This feels so great. This is an incredibly big deal and the dream of every little boy and goal scorer. I have scored my goals under the same game number and in the same team from my hometown. Everything has now fallen into place, says Tamminen.
