The birds of Riihimäki

Riihimäki's birds are well known. It is possible to obtain observational data from the beginning of the century, and quite good data goes back to the 1960s. Surveys of Riihimäki's birds have been carried out in 1992–1993 and in 2013–2014.

Despite the municipality's small area, Riihimäki's bird species has remained abundant. According to a report by the Ornithological Association of Kanta-Häme, 2013 bird species were observed in the municipality during the years 2014–228. The group includes regular breeding species, birds that migrate through the municipality every year, as well as national rarities. Riihimäki has also received new nesting species, such as whooper swan, harrier, quail, nuthatch and brown marsh hawk. The fairly diverse environment is indicated by the fact that in connection with the survey, no fewer than 27 species classified as endangered nationally or regionally were found in Riihimäki.
