Conservation

The goal of the City of Riihimäki is to promote biodiversity. We promote nature conservation through systematic monitoring and identification of natural values. We also protect nature through nature reserves and various conservation programs.

Diverse and valuable nature also exists outside protected areas. Our goal is that all important natural areas together form a network that will help us to preserve biodiversity, ecological connections and recreational opportunities. In urban environments, it is also possible to create new habitats for species such as heathland and wetlands, which can increase biodiversity.

Riihimäki's valuable natural sites are monitored and new sites are mapped at regular intervals using the biodiversity monitoring program. Depending on the destination, either Riihimäki city's environmental protection or Häme ELY Center / Forest Authority is responsible for monitoring.
