Conservation

The goal of the city of Riihimäki is to promote natural diversity. We promote nature conservation through planned monitoring and identification of nature values. We also traditionally protect nature with the help of nature reserves and various conservation programs.

There is diverse and valuable nature outside the protected areas as well. Our goal is that all important nature areas together form a network, with the help of which we secure the preservation of natural diversity, ecological connections and recreational opportunities. In the urban environment, it is also possible to implement new habitats, for example for the species of roasting habitats and wetlands, in which case the diversity of nature can even be increased.

Riihimäki's valuable natural sites are monitored and new sites are mapped at regular intervals using the biodiversity monitoring program. Depending on the destination, either Riihimäki city's environmental protection or Häme ELY Center / Forest Authority is responsible for monitoring.
