Parking

On-street parking is permitted in Riihimäki on all street sections where it is possible without compromising traffic safety and flow. This also applies to heavy traffic. There are no separate parking areas reserved or marked for heavy traffic. The property is responsible for arranging resident and guest parking.

There is no charge for parking.

There are time restrictions on parking mainly in the city centre, at the railway station and in connection with some daycare centres and schools. The restrictions aim to ensure the circulation of parking spaces for those shopping in the city centre, as well as the escort traffic to daycare centres, schools and the railway station. In all time-restricted places, traffic signs indicate the obligation to use a parking disc. In parking areas managed by the city, parking at electric car charging points is only permitted for electric cars. The time restriction is determined on a case-by-case basis. There is no charge for parking in Riihimäki, and there is currently no resident parking token in use.

Disabled parking

Disabled parking spaces are determined by the location of various services. Disabled parking spaces are marked on the street in the immediate vicinity of, among other things, public offices, pharmacies, healthcare services, housing units for the elderly and disabled, sports areas and libraries, and accessibility to other services must also be ensured. Disabled spaces are marked with signs and in some places also with roadway painting (symbol of disabled parking space). In parking areas, parking is guided by painted markings in addition to traffic signs. Paintings are mainly made for streetside spaces only in the city centre. In uniform areas where parking is prohibited, a no-parking area sign is used. Parking can be otherwise specified within the area with a separate sign.

Bicycle parking

In the city of Riihimäki, bicycle parking spaces are concentrated near the city center. In the city center area, public bicycle parking spaces can be found around the railway station and in the center of Riihimäki. New bicycle parking spaces are being developed where there is demand, i.e. near services and activities and in connection with more important public transport stops.

Implementing safe bicycle parking increases cycling. The City of Riihimäki increases and improves bicycle parking annually by replacing bicycle racks with frame-locking bicycle racks and by building new bicycle parking spaces.
