Tickets

In the Riihimäki area, you can travel with multiple types of tickets and use several different payment options.

Some of the ticket products listed on this page are also valid on regional buses when travelling within Riihimäki. However, they cannot be used as part-payment for journeys outside Riihimäki. Only Uusimaa and Häme season and series tickets are valid for journeys outside Riihimäki.

Payment methods

  • NOTE! The PayiQ Tickets application will be discontinued on June 1, 2026. Tickets in the application can be used up according to their validity period.

    With the mobile ticket app, you can buy season, series and single tickets, among other things (you can find more detailed information about ticket products further down this page). You can buy a mobile ticket at any time before boarding the bus, even while waiting at the bus stop.

    Riihimäki has Matkahuolto's Travel app.
    You can download the mobile ticket app free of charge for Android and iOS phones from app stores.

    Buying tickets

    • Buy a ticket by selecting the desired ticket product in the application

    Traveling with tickets

    • Buy a ticket before boarding the bus
    • Stamp the QR code of the ticket you purchased with the Matkat app into the QR code reader on the bus when you board the bus.
  • You can purchase a single ticket from the driver with cash or with a bank or credit card.

    When paying in cash, please have the exact amount, if possible. There may not always be enough change on the bus.

Bus tickets

You can travel on R-liikentien lines 1–8 and 10–12 with regular bus ticket products, but they are not valid on R-kiydi. Regular bus ticket products are also valid on Loppi-Riihimäki and Ryttylä-Riihimäki regional services, unless otherwise stated.

    You can buy a one-time ticket either with a mobile ticket application or from the driver with cash or a payment card.

    A one-time ticket is valid for 60 minutes. You can make several trips with the same ticket if it is valid when you board the bus.

    Child / young person (ages 7–19)

    • 8 € / 10 trips
    • 22 € / 30 trips

    You can buy a series ticket with the mobile ticket application.

    A series ticket is valid for 180 days.

    You can use the same serial ticket to pay for multiple trips at once. In this case, the ticket will also be used for multiple trips. The ticket is stamped on the QR code reader as many times as necessary.

    You can make multiple journeys with a multi-trip ticket if it has been less than 60 minutes since the ticket was last stamped.

    Season tickets can be purchased on mobile ticket applications.

    The season ticket is valid for 30 days, during which you can travel an unlimited number of trips.

  • Semester and academic year tickets for children and youth are sold to everyone aged 7–19.

    You can buy a semester or academic year ticket using the Matkat app or as a travel card. You can also buy a ticket during the semester or academic year.

    You can travel with a semester or academic year ticket for an unlimited number of journeys during its validity period on weekdays, weekends, public holidays and vacations.
    Note! However, the ticket does not entitle you to unnecessary round-trip travel.

    Note! The ticket is not valid for travel on R-buses.

    The ticket is personal and cannot be used to pay for other passengers' trips.

    Ticket sales usually start at the beginning of August, depending on the opening hours of Tietotuva. Information about the start of sales will be announced in the announcements section of this page, among other things.

    Semester ticket

    • 60 €
    • The autumn semester ticket is valid from August 1 to December 31.
    • The spring semester ticket is valid from January 1 to June 6.
    • You can also buy a ticket during the semester.

    Academic year ticket

    • The academic year ticket is valid from August 1 to June 6.
    • You can also buy a ticket during the academic year.

    Buying a mobile ticket

    Buy a ticket from Matkahuolto's Matkat app. Downloading the app is free. For more information about the app and how to download it, see on Matkahuolto's website.

    You can display the ticket by entering a one-time use code in the application.
    Get the code from the Information Centre of the city of Riihimäki (Eteläinen Asemakatu 2).

    The ticket user must be the one collecting the code. Bring the ticket user's ID or Kela card with you.
    The name of the ticket user is stored in the city's registry and is used to manage tickets. For more information about the processing of personal data: www.riihimaki.fi/tietosuoja.

    The app accepts most common payment cards. You can also pay with MobilePay and ApplePay.

    Primary school students who have been granted school transport and whose school transport is organised by public transport will receive a one-time code to the email address provided in the school transport application. The ticket is “purchased” in the app in the same way as a paid ticket, after which the ticket is available for use.

    Buying a travel card

    Buy a ticket from the Information Centre of the city of Riihimäki (Eteläinen Asemakatu 2).

    The ticket user must be the one applying for the travel card. Bring the ticket user's ID or Kela card with you.
    The name of the ticket user is stored in the city's registry and is used to manage tickets. For more information about the processing of personal data: www.riihimaki.fi/tietosuoja.

    A service fee of 4 euros is charged for a ticket on a travel card in addition to the ticket price. This means that if you buy, for example, autumn and spring semester tickets, a service fee is charged for both tickets.

    A deposit of 7 euros is charged for the travel card. You do not need to pay a deposit, for example, when purchasing a ticket for the following year if you have your old travel card with you when purchasing. You will get the deposit back if you return your travel card to Tietotupa no later than one year after the last ticket purchase. When returning the travel card, please state the name of the user of the travel card.

    A deposit of 7 euros and a service fee of 9 euros are charged for replacing a lost or destroyed travel card.

    Use of tickets

    The QR code on the mobile ticket is stamped on the reader on the bus when boarding.

    In regional transport, the QR code on the mobile ticket is not stamped, but the ticket is shown to the driver on the phone screen.

    The travel card is stamped on the reader on the bus when boarding both in R-trafik and regional transport.

    The first school day of the school year

    Traveling on R traffic is free of charge for all school children on the first school day of the academic year.

  • Holders of an EU disability card

    • The card is issued by Kela (price 10€)
    • The card can be obtained (for example) by persons who have been granted mobility support in accordance with the Social Care Act or transport service in accordance with the Disability Services Act
    • The assistant's trip is also free of charge

  • The bus services in Kanta-Häme and Central and Eastern Uusimaa use seasonal and series ticket products that allow you to travel not only on regular services, but also on regional services. The tickets are also valid for trips outside Riihimäki.

  • Granted to elementary schools, municipal and private daycare centers and family daycare providers, as well as secondary and higher educational institutions.

    The ticket is also valid for the R-ride.

    Tickets are delivered to municipal operators automatically. Private operators can inquire about tickets by e-mail at joukkoliikenne@riihimaki.fi.

    The ticket is not valid on regional transport.

  • A fee of one euro (€1) is charged for transporting a bicycle, electric scooter or other similar means of transport. Payment can be made in cash, with a payment card or with the PayiQ Tickets application.

    Bicycles, electric scooters or other similar means of transport may be transported on the bus, but the driver may refuse to take the means of transport if there are many passengers or other means of transport in the car. The means of transportation is placed in the space in the middle of the car and the customer takes care of securing it during the trip.

    Does not apply to regional traffic.

R-ride tickets

With R-kyydi ticket products you can travel on R-kyydi, on scheduled services, and on Loppi-Riihimäki and Ryttylä-Riihimäki regional services.

  • Adult

    You can buy a single ticket either with the mobile ticket app or from the driver with cash or a payment card. You can also pay for your trip when you order an R-ride with the Matkat app. If you do not want to pay for your trip when ordering, select “Pay in the car or I have a valid ticket” as the payment method in the Matkat app.

    A one-time ticket is valid for 60 minutes. You can make several trips with the same ticket if it is valid when you board the bus.
    Note the trip paid for when ordering is only valid for one trip.

    The ticket is also valid for bus services.

    A series ticket is valid for 180 days.

You can also pay for your trip when you order an R-ride with the Matkat app. If you do not want to pay for your trip when ordering, select “Pay in the car or I have a valid ticket” as the payment method in the Matkat app.

    The discounted ticket is not valid for scheduled services.

    A disability card or a veteran's ticket must be presented to the driver when boarding the bus.
