Vehicle transfers

Due to snow work or other work or event, the city may ask you to move a parked car. The request for transfer is given at least two days before. The vehicle that has not been moved can be taken to a new location nearby or to a warehouse at the car owner's expense.

  • The city can move the vehicle if it interferes with work being done on the road or an event organized in the road area. In this case, the vehicle is usually moved to a short distance, for example to the other side of the street or to a nearby street.

The work to be done on the road and the related request to move vehicles will be announced on the notice boards at least two days before moving. In exceptional situations or based on the discretion of the authority, the transfer can be undertaken without prior notice of the work to be performed in the road area.

If it is not possible to carry out a local transport for the vehicle due to traffic, lack of space or other similar reasons, or if the vehicle is not actually in traffic use, it can be carried out to storage.

The vehicle owner or keeper is usually responsible for the costs caused by the local transport of the vehicle.

  • A vehicle that hinders work on the road or an organized event can be moved to the city's depot, if it cannot be moved nearby due to lack of space or other similar reasons. Similarly, a wrongly parked vehicle can also be moved to the depot two days after the start of the wrongful parking.

However, if the parking of the vehicle causes a significant inconvenience to the use of the road, the transfer can be delivered immediately. The vehicle can be moved to the depot also when the vehicle has been assigned five parking fines for different acts, which are binding and unpaid.

The owner or holder of the vehicle is responsible for reimbursing the costs incurred for the storage transfer and the storage of the vehicle. The vehicle is handed over from the depot to the owner or holder of the vehicle when the transport and storage costs have been paid. If the vehicle has been moved to storage due to unpaid legal parking fines, these fines must also be paid before the vehicle is handed over.

A vehicle abandoned from a private area will only be moved at the reasoned request of the owner of the area. The transfer requester is then obliged to compensate the transfer costs.

  • If the vehicle is not claimed, the vehicle will be moved to storage. Moving and storing the vehicle incurs additional costs for the owner/holder of the vehicle. The vehicle is handed over against proof of payment.

The vehicle becomes the property of the city if the owner does not pick it up within 30 days of being notified of the transfer. Information about the transfer of the vehicle is sent by post as an official letter. If the owner of the vehicle is not known, information about the transfer will be given by announcing it on the Riihimäki city website. The announcement is available for viewing for 14 days from the publication date.

If the owner or holder does not pick up the vehicle that has been moved to storage within 30 days after he must be considered to have received information about the transfer decision, the vehicle will become the property of the city of Riihimäki.

  • Scrap vehicles will be removed seven days after the removal notice is issued. Vehicles that are burnt or otherwise in such a condition that are considered to be a danger to the environment or people can be moved without a move request. Scrap vehicles are transferred directly to scrapping / recycling. The costs for the transfer of scrap vehicles go to the last owner registered in the vehicle register.

  • The municipality will only move a scrap vehicle from a private yard area, storage area or other special area intended for private use at the justified request of the owner of the private area. The municipality can deliver a scrap vehicle covered by producer responsibility directly to the collector or pre-processor referred to in section 18 l subsection 1 of the Waste Act.
