Jokikylä
The new residential area of Jokikylä is located within walking distance of the railway station. The heart of the area is the Vantaa River flowing through it. A recreation area for residents will be built on the banks of the river. The area will become a comfortable and visually interesting residential environment right near the railway station, next to good services.
The Jokikylä plan allows for the construction of approximately 500 apartments. Once the area is completed, it is estimated that Jokikylä will have a population of just over 700.
Housing construction is progressing in stages. Jokikylä has enough plots for the long term.
River Village as an Area
A park, walking trails and a bridge across the river will be built around the Vantaanjoki River. Nature and recreational opportunities will open up right at your doorstep.
The construction of the river village will take into account the needs of different age groups and special groups. The main routes in the area will be made accessible and one housing block will be built according to the requirements of a special level of accessibility. Accessible apartments and the environment will support the living at home of aging Riihimäki residents and special groups.
The heart of the river village, as its name suggests, is the Vantaanjoki River, which flows through the area and is surrounded by a pleasant park area. The riverbank and park form a common living room for the residents, where accessibility, harmony with nature and the needs of different user groups have been taken into account.
Light traffic routes will run along both sides of the river. There will be seating and resting areas along the routes. Landscape stairs and rock ledges will also be built in the river park, as well as a multi-purpose beach for wading, fishing and dog walking. In addition, an accessible playground and exercise area will be built in the area.
The riverbed relocation has restored the Vantaa River to a more natural and meandering part of the green environment. This improves the living conditions of fish and aquatic organisms and helps control floods.
Area construction
Construction of the public areas of Jokikylä is currently underway. A park, trails and stormwater systems are now being built in the area. The riverside park was moved to a new location in the middle of the area in the summer of 2025.

A developer will be sought for the first block during 2026. Construction of the apartments can begin in 2027 at the earliest.
The residential buildings in Jokikylä will range from two to seven stories. The tallest buildings will be located along the railway line for noise protection, while the houses on the Jokipuisto and riverside sides will be lower. The varying building heights and types will make Jokikylä a lively and diverse residential area.
The buildings border the plots, creating sheltered courtyard areas in the middle for the residents' shared use. Resident parking is located on the southern and eastern edges of the area.
The area has a total of five blocks of residential apartment buildings. The residential blocks and parking areas will be implemented in phases, starting from the north.

The Jokikylä town plan has been prepared in general terms. More detailed guidance on construction will take place when developers are sought for the plots and the planning of the residential buildings begins.

Services
Jokikylä is located next to a variety of services and has good transport connections. The Atomi shopping center is located 100 meters from Jokikylä. At the Atomi you will find a large grocery store, specialty stores, restaurants, a pharmacy, a gym, a barbershop and a laundry.

- Piikinmäki kindergarten is located approximately 400 meters away.
- Elementary schools can be found 1–1,5 kilometers away.
- The future campus of Häme University of Applied Sciences is only about 200 meters away.
