General plan of the station area and detailed reference plans

The general plan of Asemanseutu makes visible the possibilities of Riihimäki. Diverse housing solutions and sustainable modes of movement as well as centralized services meet the needs of future housing, movement and work both locally and more widely. The general plan emphasizes a high-quality urban environment, which takes into account the comfort, ecology and safety of the environment. All these factors together make the Riihimäki station area attractive and attractive for the residents and businesses of the area

The general plan for the station region presents the target status of the whole of land use, transport and services. It specifies the vision drawn up for the station area and the city center. The general plan guides the more detailed planning of the urban environment and station planning in the station area. The work has also taken into account the guidelines created as a result of the whole city's parking program.

The city council approved the master plan for the Riihimäki station area on February 3.2.2020, 9 (§ XNUMX)

Based on the general plan, sub-area-specific reference plans were drawn up for Jokikylä, the train depots-railway station-travel center area and Peltosaari. The reference plans serve as the basis for station planning. Further planning can be done, for example, by preparing site plan changes, plans for public areas, such as park and street plans, and by organizing architectural competitions.

The master plan and the reference plans for the station area have been prepared by the LSV-Jolma-TUPA working alliance of three architectural offices together with the steering group and office holders. Nomaji Oy was responsible for landscape and stormwater planning and Ramboll Oy for traffic planning.

General plan of the station area

In addition to the description, the general plan consists of general plan and theme maps of the entire area, as well as observational photos. View photos of the most important urban spaces that are being renewed are presented. The thematic maps of the general plan deal with functions, dimensioning, green and blue structures, traffic and parking, as well as phasing and services. In addition, the material includes starting point analyses, design principles, master plan drafts and their impact assessment. Attached are the draft phase with impact assessments and a report prepared on the participation that was part of the work.

  • The handprint of the townspeople and various stakeholders is strongly visible in the general plan of the station area. In the draft phase, information and views were collected from citizens, local actors, trustees and various city officials in, among other things, workshops, presentation and discussion sessions, and a map survey in August-September 2019.

Based on the feedback received from the draft options Tähti, Rata and Väylä, a common vision for the development of the station area and further planning principles for finalizing the master plan were formed. In all the master plan drafts, based on the feedback, both good solutions and solutions that could be developed could be distinguished. Therefore, instead of choosing one option, the overall design was continued by combining the best aspects of the different sketches into a functional whole. These elements were mirrored in the previously made and approved vision of the station area. A report has been drawn up on the interaction and it is Appendix 2 of the master plan material.

Reference plans

The general plan was refined by drawing up reference plans for Jokikylä, locomotive depots-railway station-travel center area and Peltosaari. The reference plans specified the dimensions of the areas, urban space, blue and green structure, parking, street cross-sections and the principles of public art. Regarding Jokikylä, the implementation of the area in stages was also examined. In addition, a preliminary planning review was prepared for all reference plan areas.

Riihimäki's special features, such as human scale, resource wisdom and the city's renewal wishes, have been taken into account in the master plan and reference plans of the station region. Sustainable development and mobility as well as future housing needs have also been starting points in the preparation of the master plan. The design solutions take into account the profitability of construction: there must be enough building rights to make renewal possible.
